Resources for Creative Drama Things to use for inspiration during a creative drama class: Fairy/Folk Tales/Tall Tales and Myths Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk ), the class can use their familiarity with the plot to create new ideas, by modernizing the story, or placing characters from several different stories into one. The (Color) Fairy Book , (Series) Lang, Andrew, Ed. : There are twelve books in this series, each named with a different color (i.e. Blue, Pink, Yellow, Lilac ). Includes some stories of Hans Christen Anderson and the Brothers Grimm along with many little known fairy tales. Especially recommended are The Princess in the Chest (Pink) and The Raspberry Worm (Lilac) The Wonder Child and Other Jewish Fairy Tales , Selected and Retold by Howard Schwartz and Barbara Rush: Contains folk tales from Jewish culture in the Middle East and in Europe. Some of the stories have biblical characters, and some have simple people who have supernatural things happen to them. The People Could Fly: American Black Folktales Poetry Poems provide a unique opportunity for a creative drama class, as they can be "acted out" instantaneously or after planning. Because poetry is often written in first person, it is easy for the participants to put themselves into the actions or emotions expressed in the poem. When selecting poetry to use in class, look for a variety of styles, but keep in mind that the language should be direct enough for the participants to comprehend. Do not be afraid to use poems that are "silly", most children delight in the absurd.

Students, in small groups, are assigned parts of stories where they form "frozen pictures" with their own bodies to represent scenes and characters in the tale. Others create sound effects to accompany the tableau. The "frozen" students answer questions about their parts in the story when tapped on the shoulders. They act out other stories including"Click,Clack,Moo:Cows That Type," and "Where the Wild Things Are." They also engage in a series of "playground mysrteries." We're off to see the Wizard!

Drama Lesson
Drama Lesson Plans Are you a frustrated drama teacher or drama club owner because you are having problems coming up with new and challenging drama lesson plans? Are your students getting bored with your classes?  A bored student is a disengaged student – and that means you will have a tough time getting them to concentrate on what you’re trying to teach them.  They will be unable to reach their full creative potential if they are bored with your class In order to create activities that your students will find challenging and fun, you will have to do some planning before-hand.  You will need to come up with activities that are age specific.  Drama lesson plans can help you stay organized and help you run your classes smoothly. So how do you go about creating drama lesson plans that your students will enjoy and be challenged by? Here are a few tips to get you started: 1)      If you have students who are pre-schoolers, you can use picture books and finger puppets. Have a wide variety of picture books on hand, with many different characters and scenery.  The children can look through the books, and predict what will happen next, or create different stories based on the pictures they see. They could also act out the stories using finger puppets. Encourage your younger students to cut pictures out of magazines and bring them to class; then come up with a story based on the pictures. 2)      Older children who can read and write will enjoy working together to write a story. Each student will write one word or one sentence in a journal. As the journal gets passed around from student to student, they will eventually end up with a completed story. They will have fun coming up with crazy and silly stories!
