A still life by Pieter Claesz Historically Dutch cuisine was closely related to northern French cuisine , which is still visible in traditional Dutch restaurants and the Southern regional cuisine. In the course of the 15th century haute cuisine began to emerge, largely limited to the aristocracy, but from the 17th century onward these kind of dishes became available to the wealthy citizens as well, often consisting of a rich variety of fruits, cheeses, meat, wine, and nuts. The national cuisine however became greatly impoverished at the turn of the 19th century, when there was great poverty in the Netherlands. As

Organic produce at the Nieuwmarkt market More Images zSB(3,3) Let's face it. The Netherlands isn't really known for its food. In fact, it has built quite a reputation for stodgy fare. Perhaps this has been due to the abundance of heavy potato-based dishes in the Dutch diet (Vincent van Gogh may have been on to something with his portrayal of his kinsfolk as 'potato eaters' ), or perhaps visitors have had to eat their way through one too many bowls of pea soup , so thick you can stand your spoon up in it (the right way to eat it, by the way). It's also highly possible that Holland's beloved, albeit slimy pickled herring is an acquired taste... If You've Got It, Flaunt It

Short flight over Dutch cuisine with some recipes as well
    http://home.wish.net/~sparhawk/cuisine.htm
Dutch cooking A country so much characterized by its Calvinist heritage and the generally perfectly matching grey cloudy weather surely can't have a fancy cuisine, and it hasn't.
Superficially this is only illustrated by the traditional Dutch home cooked meal: potatoes, accompanied by a piece of meat and boiled vegetables. The whole lot of it preferably covered with heaps of gravy. Herbs and spices appear to be obsolete altogether, which makes the food pretty bland. However, times are changing. Partly due to the influx of citizens from former colonies, and the Mediterranean, partly due to the formation of the global village these traditional patterns are changing.
Nowadays the traditional Dutch meal is gradually being replaced by foods and spices from all over the world.
So, these days one can find African, Arabian, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Italian and Spanish food on the Dutch dinner tables. And if not, then certainly there will be restaurants serving these kinds of food within the vicinity. Contents Dairy products Breakfast Lunch Dinnertime ...

Still, it cannot be denied that Dutch citizens seem determined to help getting rid of the surplus in dairy stocks that came in the wake of European Community 's farmer aid. Not to much prevail, and so precious nutrients go wasted.

by Byron Bills I'm wild about Dutch oven cooking! Having been raised in Utah, which is most likely the Dutch oven capitol of the world, I guess it's no surprise. A Dutch Oven World
Dutch oven cooking is very popular because of the flavor it gives to your food. Read this article to learn more tasty and unique dutch oven recipes. Cooking with a Dutch oven while camping is a great way to enjoy meals that are delicious and easy. Some of my favorite camping memories involve Dutch oven dinners! Because food is such an important part to a good camping experience, take along your Dutch oven and try out some of the recipes that are included below.
But first, a little bit about Dutch ovens. Cast iron is a popular material for Dutch ovens. It's a great material for cooking while camping or even in your own kitchen at home. Cast iron cookware is very popular because food doesn't get stuck to it like it does other types of metal cookware, and it also cooks food quickly and evenly. Best of all, cast iron is easy to clean, which is one of my requirements when buying cookware, especially camping cookware like a Dutch oven. All you have to do is use soap and water to clean your cast iron Dutch oven. Also, make sure that you dry it out soon after washing to prevent rusting. Another great thing about a cast iron Dutch oven is that there's really nothing you can do to damage or ruin it. They last forever so you'll be able to use it for as long as you like, and once you try some of these great recipes, you'll be glad that your Dutch oven is a permanent fixture in your camping cookware collection.

There are obviously lots of adjustments that an ex-patriate needs to make when moving to a new country. This group of women found that learning how to cook, and learning what foods, herbs, and baking supplies are available in The Netherlands was one of the biggest adjustments. This group shares recipes, cooking and baking hints, in addition to sharing our daily frustrations and happy discoveries while adjusting to our new life in a new country.
