Our mission is to research, develop, and broadly disseminate effective counseling and teaching methods to resolve dyslexia and other learning disabilities. One of our primary goals is to address and relieve school problems suffered by dyslexic children. We fund and support public school programs which provide parent education, teacher training, consultations, and materials to pilot, test and implement dyslexia prevention and correction methods. Through research, we hope to develop effective teacher training programs throughout the world, in order to reach potentially dyslexic children before they develop identifiable difficulties. Another DRF goal is to establish effective programs for adult literacy.
What are some projects that DRF has funded?
DRF provides grants only to public schools interested in implementing programs aimed at prevention, intervention, or correction of dyslexia or other related learning problems. Some of the projects DRF has funded are:

    Instructions
This simulation demonstrates some common symptoms of dyslexia. You are given 60 seconds to read a paragraph aloud. The letters in this paragraph are reversed, inverted, transposed, and spelling is inconsistent. There will be two questions to answer at the end of the 60 seconds, so you must decipher the words as best as you can. This is a sample view of the timed reading exercise. This was designed to give users an idea of the frustrations a person with dyslexia could experience while using the web. Note This simulation requires Macromedia Flash - external link and may not be fully accessible to individuals using screen readers. WebAIM is working on a fully accessible version of this simulation.

Dyslexia is a condition that makes it very difficult for children to read, write and/or spell. It has nothing to do with the person’s intelligence. Often weaknesses may be seen in areas such as of language development, memory and sequencing. Having dyslexia does not mean that your child’s ability to learn is below average.
In fact, many people with dyslexia are very bright. But not being able to read well can make many areas of learning a problem. Dyslexia describes a different kind of mind, sometimes gifted and productive, that learns differently.

... Jon himself has commented that "reading is easier." [ More I thought I had dyslexia or something similar. It turned out that my brain was fine and the real problem was with the muscles in my eyes. [ More I never dreamed that his vision problems flowed over into so many areas of his life. [ More ... we had tried everything, Hooked on Phonics, tutors, summer school, nothing seemed to help. ... Finally, we decided to do a dyslexia screening. [ More I had her tested for learning disability and dyslexia. Then a teacher suggested I take her to Dr. X. ... they gave her a very thorough exam. I couldn't believe how bad my daughter's eyes were. My heart was in my throat. After going through therapy, she has shown much improvement. Her reading has improved and she feels so much better about herself. [ More I took her to be tested for dyslexia, which she has. The tests also showed a possible tracking problem. I feel Vision Therapy was treatment I could not deny my child. [ More Since Vision Therapy, she now enjoys reading. Thank you Dr. X. You created a miracle for us. [

Help Save the Adult Dyslexia Organisation
    UK Disability History Month
    22nd November - 22nd December 2010
Help Save the Adult Dyslexia Organisation The Adult Dyslexia Organisation (ADO) will be continuing its fundraising appeal until the end of the UK Disability History Month (22nd November to 22nd December) to prevent closing its doors forever unless we raise some immediate funds to cover our rent and phone costs for the next two months. Will you please support us by sending your donation of £20, or whatever you can afford? No one can doubt these are hard times for the voluntary sector. We've got contracts, consultancies and conferences pending for next year, and a strategy for securing our long term future, but in the short term, we're struggling to keep going.
We've been making a significant difference to the lives of dyslexic adults for twenty years. If you or someone you know is dyslexic we've been there for you through the work we have done with the NHS, Job Centres, Prison Service, through Government Departments for Education and Employment, and the development of support groups in the Community, Education and the workplace.

    Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder
Are you interested in dyslexia or attention deficit disorder? The first thing you should know is that these so-called “learning disabilities” are really learning differences. Both dyslexia and ADD are mixes of difficulties and strengths. Some things that society takes for granted like reading, spelling, the ability to concentrate are more difficult for us. At the same time, people with dyslexia or ADD are often unusually creative, innovative and independent.
The Dyslexia Awareness and Resource Center is here to help both students and adults who have dyslexia and ADD, as well as their parents, teachers and professionals, who work with them.
