Earth is the only planet whose English name does not derive from Greek/Roman mythology. The name derives from Old English and Germanic. There are, of course, hundreds of other names for the planet in other languages . In Roman Mythology, the goddess of the Earth was Tellus - the fertile soil (Greek: Gaia terra mater - Mother Earth). It was not until the time of Copernicus (the sixteenth century) that it was understood that the Earth is just another planet.
Mir space station and Earth's limb Earth, of course, can be studied without the aid of spacecraft. Nevertheless it was not until the twentieth century that we had maps of the entire planet. Pictures of the planet taken from space are of considerable importance; for example, they are an enormous help in weather prediction and especially in tracking and predicting hurricanes. And they are extraordinarily beautiful. The Earth is divided into several layers which have distinct chemical and seismic properties (depths in km):
0- 40 Crust 40- 400 Upper mantle 400- 650 Transition region 650-2700 Lower mantle 2700-2890 D'' layer 2890-5150 Outer core 5150-6378 Inner core The crust varies considerably in thickness, it is thinner under the oceans, thicker under the continents. The inner core and crust are solid; the outer core and mantle layers are plastic or semi-fluid. The various layers are separated by

    9. Earth Day
Tells what earth Day is and when it is celebrated.
    http://www.earthsite.org/day.htm
What and When Is Earth Day?
By John McConnell, Founder of Earth Day
When I first conceived of Earth Day, a global holiday to celebrate the wonder of life on our planet, I thought long and hard about the day on which it should fall. It must be meaningful. One that might be accepted universally for all of humankind.
When the Vernal Equinox dawned on me, I immediately knew it was right. The Earth tremor that shook our California dwelling at that moment seemed an omen of confirmation. What could be more appropriate than the first moment of Spring, when day and night are equal around the world and hearts and minds can join together with thoughts of harmony and Earth's rejuvenation. Just as a single prayer can be siginificant, how much more so when hundreds, thousands, millions of people throughout the world join in peaceful thoughts and prayers to nurture neighbor and nature.
And so it came to pass we initiated the celebration of Earth Day on March 21, 1970 . The first Proclamation of Earth Day was by San Francisco, the City of Saint Francis, patron saint of ecology. Designating the First Day of Spring, March 21, 1970

    The Earth2 Role Playing Game
Earth2 was a show that aired on NBC in 1994. Because of it's cancellation and cliff hanger ending, most fans were not satisfied with that as the end, I being one of them. Having realized there will not be a revival anytime soon, I created a role playing games for the Earth2 fans. A game that would pick up where the show dropped off and let us finish the journey that they never has the chance to.
The show began with a crash landing that left the characters, Eden Project, stranded on planet G889 - Earth2. The first thing the crew learned was they were not alone. Prisoners had been dumped on G889. Among those prisoners were murderers, thieves and rapists. Faced with this adversity as well as the realization that G889 had life of it's own (life that saw Human Beings as aliens) Eden Project traveled across lands and survived great trials towards their new home: New Pacifica, a water front land mass designated to be the start of a new colony.
The present plot line begins with Eden Project having recently arrived at their destination New Pacifica. Things should have become easier and yet, the colonists are finding life in New Pacifica is not perfect.... Buildings must be built from the ground up and most of the building material was lost in the crash landing. Children suffering from the rare syndrome disease are dying every day. And once more, Eden Project finds it is not alone on this planet...
Feel free to join us on our journey on Planet G889 by becoming a character or just reading along with us. Any questions? Just contact me at
