The Turkey Research Centre translated a series of essays by Turkish schoolchildren about the August 17 1999 earthquake that killed some 18,000 people in Yalova, Izmit, Golcuk and Adapazari areas of Turkey. Since these essays were written, another earthquake in the nearby area around Bolu and Duzce on November 12th has killed another 800 people and left thousands homeless, some for the second time. The childrens' essays give an idea of the impact of the disaster. In response to many requests, we have now added to this site photographs taken during visits to the earthquake area by Turkey Research Centre volunteers. We hope to add more childrens' pictures soon. Special Attention Required for Women and Children
Extremely Important Information About Child Adoption
This is for the attention of everyone, please spread the message! It is the most grave issue of the hour... children from the disaster hit areas are going MISSING. Due to the chaos and confusion, it is hard to keep track of children whose families are either missing or dead. Traffickers are taking full advantage of this situation.
Things to do and know:
  • Adoption has been BANNED by the goverment for the time being so anyone who is doing so is doing it ILLEGALLY No individuals can OFFER children brought in from those areas up for adoption No one can re-locate the children from their areas without official permission from the goverment The goverment is giving the names of ORGANISATIONS in the media who have been asked to supervise and take care of the children for the time being - so if you don't know, CHECK with any TV channel, newspaper etc If you are recieving any messages from individuals saying that they have kids up for adoption, please inform the authorities

MUZAFFARABAD (AFP) – A baby girl born in this quake-hit city of death and devastation has become a symbol of hope for survivors, as the “tsunami baby” captured the imagination of Sri Lankans when he was survived from the giant waves last December.
Word has spread and everyone wants to see her ,” said Ismet Kamal, a volunteer from Karachi at the field hospital where the baby was born on Saturday. “

Hanshin Earthquake Special
All Companies Working Towards Disaster Recovery(Local Report)
The Great Hanshin Earthquake which struck at 05:46 in the morning of January 17th visited unprecedented damage to the Hanshin area. Kajima established disaster headquarters in the head office, the Osaka branch (currently the Kansai branch) and the Kobe district office immediately after the earthquake struck, and after confirming the safety of all employees and the extent of damage incurred by the company, we turned our attention to establishing an aid system for emergency recovery objectives. The following describes an outline of this and the progress attained.
The 1995 South Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake Damage Survey(Survey Report)
The South Hyogo Prefecture earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.2 and a maximum acceleration of 800 gal, sent a variety of ripples surging through the construction industry. By the middle of February, Kajima was not only involved in the removal of structural debris and renovation work, but was also implementing damage condition surveys, recovery plans, emergency disposal, and surveys and recovery plans for civil engineering structures such as roadways, sea walls and railways, etc.
Our teams of technicians were deployed in affected areas directly after the earthquake in order to collect status reports on damage. The results of this were collected into the 1995 South Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake Damage Survey by January 27th, published as a first edition, covering a total of 186 pages, on February 1st, and immediately became a topic for conversation throughout all areas. A portion of this report is below.

How to file a claim Contact Us Employment Opportunites After a damaging earthquake, we’ll look for the strength to recover anywhere we can – it may come to us in the form of a family photo or a treasured heirloom pulled from the rubble. We will rely on those close to us for personal strength in the face of an overwhelming disaster. And many Californians also will turn to the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) to get the financial strength they’ll need to rebuild.
The strength to hold you steady after an earthquake
Earthquakes strike without warning. With CEA earthquake insurance, you can recover with the strength to rebuild. Your homeowners policy does not cover earthquake damage – a separate policy is required, at some extra cost. But without earthquake insurance to handle repairs and expenses, you will pay out-of-pocket to fix your home, and live and eat elsewhere, while making mortgage payments until repairs have been completed. Purchasing earthquake insurance from the CEA gives you the peace-of-mind that comes from knowing you can recover. The CEA and its network of leading homeowners insurance companies will work together to help you put your life back on stable ground after a damaging earthquake through unparalleled service and claim-paying ability. Contact your homeowners insurance agent today to purchase earthquake coverage from the CEA.
