"What Does Easter Teach Us About God? He is Omnipotent"
Date: March 27, 2005 Scripture: Jeremiah 32:26-7; John 11:25-26 from the series What Does Easter Teach Us About God? Jeremiah 32:26-27 - Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me? John 11:25-6 - "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though He dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die."
Introduction
This week I came across the story of a 747 jetliner that was halfway across the Atlantic when the captain came on the loudspeaker and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have lost one of our engines, but we can still reach London with the three we have left. Unfortunately, this will make us ONE hour late." An hour later the captain came on the PA and made another announcement. He said: "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but we've lost another engine. No need to worry though, because we can still make it on two. However, this will make us TWO hours late." A short while later, the passengers heard the captain's voice again, "Guess what folks? We just lost our third engine, but please rest assured-we CAN fly with only one but we will now arrive in London THREE hours late." At this point one impatient passenger became furious and shouted out, "For Pete's sake, if we lose another engine we'll be up here all night!"

"What Does Easter Teach Us About God? He is Merciful"
Date: March 24, 2005 Scripture: Ephesians 2:4-5 from the series What Does Easter Teach Us About God? Ephesians 2:4-5 - But because of His great love for us, God, Who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved. In his new book, The Holy Wild, Mark Buchanan shares the story of a man who was talking to a book collector. As is typical of book collectors, this one was of course always on the lookout for rare books-the older and the rarer the better. I mean, he absolutely loved old books-their musty, brittle pages, their ragged edges, the engraved lettering on the covers rubbed almost smooth from countless hands. He loved old books! Well, to make conversation the other man told this book collector, "I found an old book once...in my grandfather's attic. It was a Bible. Somebody named Gutenberg printed it."

PASSOVER, EASTER TEACH US VALUES.
Byline: James Bemis Commentary
With the eight days of Passover overlapping with Easter observances, this weekend provides an occasion for many in Ventura County to celebrate their faith.
This coinciding of religious holidays invites reflection on the symbolic links between the Passover and Easter celebrations and the historical bonds between the Jewish and Christian religions. As Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus PP. II , Italian: Giovanni Paolo II , Polish: ) born (helpinfo) observed, the Jewish people are the ``older brothers'' of Christians, and their traditions play a vital role in the development of Western civilization Noun Western civilization - the modern culture of western Europe and North America; "when Ghandi was asked what he thought of Western civilization he said he thought it would be a good idea"
Western culture . Without learning the meaning of Jewish history Jewish history is the history of the Jewish people, faith, and culture. Since Jewish history encompasses nearly four thousand years and hundreds of different populations, any treatment can only be provided in broad strokes.

Happy Easter! Teach Kids The True Meaning of Easter
As I was preparing Easter Dinner, I began to think about back in the day how much fun Easter use to be at my house. We would go to church, color Easter eggs, do an Easter egg hunt, maybe get a new outfit and eat candy with our friends. It was a time of true friendship, fellowship and peace. I remember thinking how content we were just to be on that day.
This is so different than how things are today. Kids are much more consumed with the type of outfits they get than anything else. Easter egg hunts, except for the very young, have ceased and Easter baskets, well they now include more expensive items such as video games. I'm telling you kids today may have much more in terms of the things in their lives but our generation certainly had more in terms of the quality of our lives. The truth is sometimes less is more and well, more is less.
Today, take some time to help your kids understand the true meaning of Easter: Jesus Christ's victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him and it symbolizes the validation of all Jesus's teaching. His resurrection changed everything. Not only did it give us all the promise of salvation and eternal life but it also solidifed that Jesus really is the son of God.
Make it a great Easter. Blessings to you and your family.

The Second Sunday of Easter
April 3, 2005 Pastor : Wayne C. Eichstadt Hymns: WELCOME in the name of our resurrected Savior who lives to forgive our sins. Pre-Service devotion: Psalm 81 Pre-Service prayer:
Responsive Psalm Reading: Psalm 105:1-5,7-8
Pastor: Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Cong: Make known His deeds among the peoples! P: Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; C: Talk of all His wondrous works! P: Glory in His holy name; C: Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! P: Seek the Lord and His strength; C: Seek His face evermore! P: Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth, C: He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth. P: He remembers His covenant forever, C: The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations, P: Glory be to God!
New Testament Reading: John 21:1-14
After rising from the dead and before ascending into heaven, Jesus showed Himself alive to the disciples several times. These appearances gave proof to the disciples that He was truly alive, and give us the assurance that our sins are forgiven, and we, too, will live. In these words, John records the events surrounding the third time Jesus appeared to a group of disciples.
Old Testament Reading: 2 Samuel 11:1-17, 26-27

13. Should Christians Celebrate Easter?
A brief overview of the historical celebration of Easter within the early church.
http://www.askelm.com/news/n010412.htm
ASK Commentary April 12, 2001 Should Christians Celebrate Easter? Under normal astronomical circumstances, the Christian "Easter" services on a Sunday following the Vernal Equinox and the Full Moon could occur in certain years when the Jews celebrated their Passover on a Sunday. This is the very case this year of 2001. Easter (according to astronomical reasons) should have occurred on April 8 th As for me, I do not see why I should hold a despicable attitude toward the Jewish people as our forefathers did who enacted the "Easter" rules that determine the time of the festival. What gives those people some 1600 years ago the authority to legislate for me (and for all Christendom today) what we should be doing to honor and adore Christ Jesus when I cannot believe that Christ himself would be party to such hatefulness? That is why I will NOT attend such celebrations no matter if the people are doing their celebrations without the historical knowledge that we theologians have. The fact is, though, we theologians do have the truth and most hide it under the rug of tradition that has lost its meaning. But this is not a true excuse for its retention. Education and knowledge of the facts should lead the way in reclaiming these hateful doctrines concocted in what many people call the refined "Dark Ages" of late antiquity. It think it is time to tell the ordinary public about these hateful and contemptible customs that disgrace the very august celebrations that we mistakenly call "Christian" today. You see, I am a professor of history and I DO KNOW the reason for keeping Sunday, April 15

What Does the Easter Story Have to do with Me Going to Heaven?
    By Jeanne Dennis
    Guest Writer
CBN.com After Jesus died to pay for the sins of all people, He stayed dead in the grave until the third day. Jesus chose to die for us, but because He is God, death could not hold Him captive. On the morning of the third day, He came back to life with a perfected body, suited for heaven. The scars from his cruel death, however, remained, as both a proof and a reminder of the price He paid to save us.
