The Pharaonic Period is dated from around 3150 BC, when Lower and Upper Egypt became a unified state, until the country fell under Greek rule in 332 BC. Egypt's history is split into several different periods according to the dynasty of the ruling of each pharaoh . The dating of events is still a subject of research. The conservative dates are not supported by any reliable absolute date for a span of about three millennia. The following is the list according to conventional Egyptian chronology

Impressive monuments were erected in the name of kings, from monumental temples for the gods to the pyramids marking the burials of rulers. The British Museum collection includes statuary and decorated architecture from throughout pharaonic history, often inscribed with hieroglyphs. Many other aspects of ancient Egyptian culture are represented: coffins and mummies of individuals, but also furniture, fine jewellery and other burial goods. These reflect the practice of lavish burials for the wealthy, which included the royal family, government officials and the priesthood. Texts preserved on papyrus help reveal the complex administration of the country, but also include magical, medical and mathematical works and poetry. Pottery vessels and a variety of tools and agricultural equipment hint at the day-to-day lives of ancient Egyptians. Egypt did endure several periods of foreign domination, by Palestinian, Nubian, Persian, Greek and Roman rulers. Yet throughout, temples to the Egyptian gods continued to be built in the traditional style and aspects of Egyptian religion spread throughout the ancient world.

The western desert at Sakkara The mention of the word conjures up images of pyramids and temples, hieroglyphs and elaborately carved tombs, and the golden treasures of King Tutankhamun.
However, as we begin our story of Cairo, we see that the world of Ancient Egypt does not have a great impact on the Cairo area. Though the Pyramids at Giza, Sakkara and Dahshur are located just outside of Cairo, these vast monuments were not temples visited by the living; they were temples to the dead. They stood guard over vast "cities of the dead," or necropoles (singular: necropolis The pyramids at Giza are part of the largest remaining necropolis, which included funerary temples as well as the Sphinx. These structures were built by a chain of successive pharaohs in a line from grandfather to great-grandson. The Cairo area was not deserted during the Ancient Egyptian period, however. Let us learn the story: Legend has it that, from the time of creation, Egypt was divided into two vast kingdoms: Upper Egypt (which is in the south of the country) and Lower Egypt (which is the northern part of the country, including the Nile delta).
The 'small' pyramid of Menkaura (Mycerinus) and tributary pyramid Why is "Upper Egypt" south and "Lower Egypt" north? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Ramessid Period Placemarks: Dynasty 19 and 20, often referred to as the Ramessid period (1295-1069 BC) are technically still part of the New Kingdom (1550- 1069 BC).
At the beginning of the 19 th Dynasty a restoration took place after the chaos of the Amarna Period. The reign of Pharaoh Rameses II is famous for its length, his confrontation with the Hittite Empire at Qadesh and his many building projects. During much of the 19 th and 20 th Dynasty Egypts power was challenged by first the Hittite Empire in Syria/ Palestine, and later by the Sea people and Libyan tribes. These Sea People, a large migration that ended many Middle Eastern states, landed at the coast of Libya and joined forces with Libyan tribes and invaded Egypt. Pharaoh Merenptah managed to fight them off and they would never succeed in conquering Egypt but they would cause much unrest and wars afterwards. Much of the 20 th dynasty was a period of great social unrest. The High Priests of Amun in Thebes had become very powerful and formed a state in a state, the economy would decline, famine happened and there were continuous attacks by tribes from Libya.
The 20 th dynasty ended with a civil war and great crisis.
