    Christianity in Egypt
Ancient Coptic Christian Fabrics by Jimmy Dunn
As early as the Pharaonic period of Egypt's New Kingdom, and because of increasing contact with the Near East, a fashion developed in Egypt of wearing ornate garments decorated with colorful decorations. This fashion disappeared during the Late Pharaonic Period only to reappear during Roman times, with the spread of the use of wool. Flax (linen), which was used almost exclusively until the Greek period was very difficult to dye, but in contrast, wool allowed colors to be applied that have lasted into our own time. There also evolved silk garments with shimmering colors that obviously had their origins in the east, consisting of caftans, leggings and tunics, for example. As in the pharaonic period, Coptic fabrics remained well known for a long time and even in distant lands.

Egypt has endured as a unified state for more than 5,000 years, and archeological evidence indicates that a developed Egyptian society has existed for much longer. Egyptians take pride in their "pharaonic heritage" and in their descent from what they consider mankind's earliest civilization. The Arabic word for Egypt is Misr, which originally connoted "civilization" or "metropolis." Archeological findings show that primitive tribes lived along the Nile long before the dynastic history of the pharaohs began. By 6000 B.C., organized agriculture had appeared. In about 3100 B.C., Egypt was united under a ruler known as Mena, or Menes, who inaugurated the 30 pharaonic dynasties into which Egypt's ancient history is dividedthe Old and the Middle Kingdoms and the New Empire. The pyramids at Giza (near Cairo), which were built in the fourth dynasty, testify to the power of the pharaonic religion and state. The Great Pyramid, the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu (also known as Cheops), is the only surviving monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Ancient Egypt reached the peak of its power, wealth, and territorial extent in the period called the New Empire (1567-1085 B.C.). Persian, Greek, Roman, and Arab Conquerors

THE HISTORY OF EGYPT
About 5,000 years ago, a remarkable way of life, or civilization, grew up along the banks of the Nile River in Egypt. It flourished for over 3,000 years, longer than most other civilizations in the world's history. Egypt is among the most influential of Arab states. It lies between Africa and the Middle East. This ancient country holds a history of over 6,000 years and has many exciting attractions for travelers. The Pyramids, the Sphinx, the tomb of young King Tut are just a few attractions that interest and excite people of all ages. EGYPT'S CREATION Egyptian history begins around 3300 BC. This was when the Egyptians finally had enough symbols in their writing to record history. From 3100 BC inscriptions created a way for later Egyptians. It was also the time when the pharaoh, King Menes, created Egypt by uniting the two parts of Egypt, also known as Upper and Lower Egypt, into a single kingdom. He started Memphis in the north and Abydos in the south as his capital cities. A series of strong and able rulers established a well organized government. The calendar was introduced during this time and the sun-god Re was the most loved god-figure. Over time, authority began to disappear and Egypt was controlled by foreign princes. These rulers introduced the horses and chariots to Egypt.

      Egypt History
There are eight significant periods in the history of beautiful Egypt:
In fact, Egypt`s history started long ago before the Pharaohs, when, almost eight thousands years ago, the proto-berbers pastors, which were running from the droughty Sahara, found a refuge on the Nil`s Valley, where they set, merging with the old inhabitants. Three millennia later the Pharaohnic Egypt was born, from the unification of the firsts proto-states. It seems that the King Menes is the one who made the first kingdom, in 3150 BC, by unifying the Upper Egypt with the Lower Egypt.
For almost three thousands of years, over thirty dynasties will succeed in the will of a glorious history, that will see the Egypt master of a part of the Orient, or the will of a decadent history, when Egypt will be invaded. Beginning with 332 BC, Egypt will get under the control of the Greek dynasty of Ptolemies, then, the country became a Roman colony. In 632, conquered by Arabs, Egypt constitutes the Fatimid`s Empire`s heart. The Muslim world`s first power, during the Mamluks, starting with 1260, Egypt is integrated in the Ottoman`s Empire in 1517. Napoleon Bonaparte marks then the country with his powerful print, opening it to the Occident. This is considered to be the beginning of the Egypt`s modern history.

Egypt History
Egypt history provides information regarding the Ancient Egypt. It is in fact the record of the remarkable past events that the country once underwent. The Nile valley constitutes the natural geological unit, surrounded to the west and east by deserts, whereas to the north by the sea and the south by the waterfalls of the Nile.
In order to manage the Nile waters, the need to form a single authority was developed and this led to the creation of the world's first Egyptian state in around 3000 BC. Like few other counties in the world, Egypt remained independent and self-contained state for a long time. However, once Egypt underwent the foreign rule and was ruled by the foreigners including Persians, Greeks, Assyrians, Romans, Arabs, Ottomans, French, Byzantine Greeks and the British.
Basically the history of Egypt can be divided in the following period:
  • Modern Egypt since 1882
  • Egypt under Muhammad Ali's rule from 1805 to 1882
  • Ottoman Egypt from 1517 to 1805
  • Arab Egypt from 639 to 1517
  • Egypt under Roman rule from 30 BC to AD 639
  • Ptolemaic Egypt from 332 BC to 30 BC
  • Achaemenid Persian rule from 525 BC to 332 BC
  • History of ancient Egypt from 3000 BC to 525 BC
