ETCulvert is a high-performance Windows-based program that seamlessly combines the functionality of a state-of-the-art structural analysis engine with both fully-automatic design and analysis capabilities. Integration of the critical design tasks into one system means you get superior productivity, flexibility and improved quality control. It makes full use of current Windows technology. Four-sided, three-sided, and V-bottom precast culverts can be handled. In automatic design mode, ETCulvert quickly analyzes and designs wall thicknesses and reinforcement sizes and spacing. A comprehensive reinforcement schedule is produced, complete with all bar dimensions and bends. By switching to analysis mode, you get complete control over the design. Both AASHTO Standard and LRFD Specifications are supported. The highly-graphical user interface provides multiple views to render the design and present the results. Complete details of the design are provided, along with detailed calculations. Powerful graphics show all rebar rendered in true 3D. Sophisticated live load capabilities include a user-customizable truck library.

A brief guide on how to identify an engineer.

Engineers Explained
People who work in the fields of science and technology are not like other people. This can be frustrating to the nontechnical people who have to deal with them. The secret to coping with technology-oriented people is to understand their motivations. This chapter will teach you everything you need to know. I learned their customs and mannerisms by observing them, much the way Jane Goodall learned about the great apes, but without the hassle of grooming.
Engineering is so trendy these days that everybody wants to be one. The word "engineer" is greatly overused. If there's somebody in your life who you think is trying to pass as an engineer, give him this test to discern the truth.
ENGINEER IDENTIFICATION TEST
You walk into a room and notice that a picture is hanging crooked. You...
    A. Straighten it.
    B. Ignore it.
    C. Buy a CAD system and spend the next six months designing a solar-powered, self-adjusting picture frame while often stating aloud your belief that the inventor of the nail was a total moron.
The correct answer is "C" but partial credit can be given to anybody who writes "It depends" in the margin of the test or simply blames the whole stupid thing on "Marketing."

electrical engineers
Electrical engineers: Electrical engineering covers a wide spectrum of civilian and military careers. Electrical engineers can generally place themselves in one of the following categories.
  • building and construction services public works educational institution military design house
Electrical engineers are expected to be able to calculate mathematically every element within their particular field. Unlike many other types of engineer, electrical engineers are trained to a minimum of a "higher education" grade. That is to say that every electrical engineer is a graduate. Let me elaborate on this and take a deeper look at the areas covered above.
  • building and construction services
These electrical engineers have duties ranging from assessing the maximum current demand of a new high rise block to calculating harmonics within switch mode power supplies. Typically these electrical engineers work on behalf of a contracting company or are "in house" in larger buildings. The duties of these electrical engineers are possibly the most diverse of all. Not only do they have to design and calculate a prospective installation, they may well have to use software to design it, like autocad et cetera, work out the costings, schedule delivery dates for equipment and accommodate rapid changes in their designs as requested by the clients and other contractors.

    Engineering: general
Application of science, maths and computing skills to solve practical problems Photograph: Frank Baron What will I learn?
Engineering degrees cover all things related to developing, providing and maintaining infrastructure, products and services that society needs - from researching how to manufacture a product to building bridges and roads. Students will find themselves studying all, or part, of the life cycle of a product, from conception and design to creation. Science and maths will be the core ingredients, but you will be required to be innovative and know how to use your creative flair within a legal and ethical framework, and in budget. A degree in general engineering is for those who want to see what it's all about before choosing to specialise. You will get a basic introduction to each specific engineering discipline, developing your science, maths and computing skills to see how they can solve practical problems - the core ingredient for any degree in this field. Some four-year courses that lead to a masters qualification will offer two years of general study followed by two in a particular specialism, which is ideal for those torn, say, between civil and electrical engineering.
