DESCRIBING AND MAKING COMPARISONS TASK 1 How to compare? When nouns are used on their own, they tell us little. For example, being told that someone lives in a house gives us little information but, if we use descriptive words to tell us about the noun, then we can learn more. These descriptive words are called " adjectives ". For example if we say that he lives in a big, red house, the adjectives big and red give us a clearer picture of what the house is like. Adjectives can be changed to tell us how much two nouns differ. For example, we could say:
    • Someone has a big house. Their house is bigger than someone else's. Or, they have the biggest house in the village.
The word bigger is a comparative adjective for big. It is used to compare two things.
Biggest is called a superlative adjective. It is used for describing the greatest or best in a set of things. Things you need to know Comparative adjectives are used when comparing 2 nouns. The word than is often used and

    Reading Activities IELTS
The purpose of the IELTS reading module is to test your ability to understand a written text and find information in text such as purpose, specific, and general details. The reading test always has the same format. The test is 60 minutes long, there are always three reading passages and 40 questions. The reading texts can be on a variety of topics. Some may be about science, history, society and school for example. Whatever the topic, the reading texts are regarded as being 'General Interest'. You do not need to be a specialist in that subject to read and understand it. The text used should be understandable to anyone, whatever their background of study. One or more of the passages will be a 'detailed argument' where two or three issues are explored to debate. At least one of the reading texts could include a diagram, an illustration or a chart or table that contains information you will need summaries and answer questions about. You can write your answers directly onto the question paper.
