Adopt-A-Park The Adopt-A-Park Program of the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is an opportunity for local businesses and organizations to preserve and beautify the city’s verdant parklands. Local parks provide a wonderful public space where San Antonians have celebrated birthdays, had picnics and enjoyed nature for decades. The contributions of local organizations, including landscaping, graffiti removal and litter pick-up, help ensure that San Antonio will keep these community resources for years to come. Groups, businesses and organizations may consult with the Parks and Recreation Department to determine which park will benefit most from their help, putting them on their way to promoting civic engagement, pride and environmental stewardship in San Antonio. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide participating groups with the essential paint, tools and accessories for undertaking these valuable projects. Groups that complete annual time benchmarks will receive special public recognition as well as access to special programming and events sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department. For over 25 years, Texas Public Radio has been dedicated to preserving and beautifying San Antonio’s parks. Our decade-long partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department has resulted in the recent xeriscaping of Dignowity Park on San Antonio’s east side as well as the improvement and upkeep of many other local public spaces. TPR endorses the Adopt-A-Park Program as part of its ongoing effort to promote good citizenship through community-oriented programs and positive environmental practices in San Antonio. Environment Brookmans Park is surrounded by green belt land . Much of the responsibility for maintaining the woodlands, fields and pathways in and around the village falls to three main groups. North Mymms Parish Council looks after Gobions Open Space , Moffats Open Space and the area in the centre of Bradmore Green. The Gobions Woodland Trust (GWT) runs the woodland south of Gobions Open Space and has a lease on the Leach Fields, south of Moffats Open Space. The GWT organises work parties for volunteers to help maintain the area. The activities are written up online on the Gobions Woodland Trust Working Party site . Other groups involved in maintaining the local environement include Welwyn Hatfield District Council and Hertfordshire County Council who maintain the roads, verges and public footpaths. The North Mymms Green Belt Society acts as a pressure group and monitors planning applications which could threaten the character of the village and surrounding area. The society has its own site which is regularly updated. This site has an

Environment
Transportation planning and project development must reflect the desires of communities, and take into account the impacts on both the natural and human environments. Transportation projects are closely looked at to see how they might impact the community, the natural environment, and our health and welfare. Before any project can move forward to construction, the FHWA must address and comply with laws related to the environment. These laws cover social, economic, and environmental concerns ranging from community cohesion to threatened and endangered species. To get through this detailed process, FHWA and FTA use the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to evaluate impacts associated with each individual project. Two Offices within the Federal Highway Administration focus on environmental protection and enhancement. The Office of Natural and Human Environment primarily focuses on environmental programs associated with air quality, noise, and water quality, and on programs associated with the built environment, including transportation enhancements, bicycle and pedestrian facilities and scenic byways. The Office of Project Development and Environmental Review focuses on NEPA project development process as a balanced and streamlined approach to transportation decisionmaking that takes into account the potential impacts on both human and natural resources and the public's need for safe and efficient transportation improvements. Information regarding the full range of FHWA environmental programs can be found on this website. If you don't see the topic you are looking for, check our

The Environment
The Departmentof Energy has the monumental task of cleaning up contaminated sites and disposing of radioactive waste left behind as a byproduct of nuclear weapons production, nuclear powered naval vessels and commercial nuclear energy production. DOE must mitigate the risks and hazards posed by the legacy of nuclear weapons production and research. The most ambitious and far ranging of this mission is dealing with the environmental legacy of the Cold War. Disposing of nuclear waste safely
DOE must develop and manage a federal system for waste acceptance and transportation and dispose of spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear reactors and high-level radioactive waste from national defense activities. The environmental legacy of the Cold War
The most ambitious and far ranging missions of DOE is dealing with the environmental legacy of the Cold War. These efforts include site closure activities, disposition of nuclear materials and waste, and science and technology research to facilitate the environmental clean up. Safely storing radioactive waste
Currently stored at 131 sites around the nation, these materials are a result of nuclear power generation and national defense programs. The Department is fully committed to ensuring that long-term storage obligations for nuclear waste are met. The Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future is conducting a comprehensive review of policies for managing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle, and will provide recommendations for developing a safe, long-term solution to managing the Nation's used nuclear fuel and nuclear waste.
