Designing your own individualized ESL Lesson Plans is important for teachers, students and individuals. The benefit of designing your own individualized plans ranges from better speech and reading quality to keeping pace with yours or your students learning style and level. There are a number of different lesson plans and approaches when it comes to learning or teaching any language. The standard format The standard format for ESL lesson plans generally follows these guidelines: Warm-up, presentation, controlled practice, free practice, feedback However, there are a number of variations one can come up with for a personalized lesson plan. These might include extended lessons in particular areas, more reading, more feedback, two person dialogues, or other methods to instill upon the mind the new language.
ESL Lesson Plans: How to Make your Own
When structuring each lesson plan, start by setting aside the times needed for the plan to work. Lessons should be no longer than 45 minutes and no shorter than 15 minutes. Optimally a lesson plan can be spread out over the course of a week and consist of 20 to 40 minute sessions at least five days per week. Start by selecting a structure or function of the lesson. This may be determined by present or future goals. Lessons may be planned by building on past lessons or preparing for future lessons.

Advanced Students Level 4
Advanced level classes in some ways are the most challenging because you are always looking for new ways to challenge the students. They've gained a decent level of proficiency with the language, can speak it relatively well, know the basics of grammar without having to think about it and have a large vocabulary. But advanced classes can be the most fun because you can actually carry on a good conversation with little struggle and is the place where you'll usually make the most friends because there is little communciation barrier. Now, the thing is to challenge the students and always look for ways to push the envelope to the point of maybe making them a little uncomfortable because you're starting to be rigorous with them. Let nothing slide. Always be on top of their grammar, pronunciation, word usage and idiomatic expressions. You can use ...

Creating the Best ESL Lesson Plans
How to Write an Effective Lesson Plan
The best ESL lesson plans, whether you're writing them yourself or using someone else's plans, should have the following elements: (1) A main topic
(2) Objectives
(3) "Study"
(4) Student activities (5) Evaluation Main Topic A main topic for each lesson is essential. Whether the lesson lasts for one hour or three hours, there should be one main ESL topic. For example, the main topic could be prepositions of place, modal verbs, the Simple Past, pronunciation, etc. Virtually anything that English language learners need to learn to communicate effectively could be the main topic of the lesson. If you have a long period of time and you want to cover two or more main topics, then you will have two or more parts to your plan or two or more separate plans. Either way, you must have all of the elements. Objectives Objectives will help to limit the scope of the lesson. The number of objectives will vary depending on the length of the lesson and the main topic, but will probably range between two and five objectives.

By Ian eHow Contributor updated: September 11, 2009 I want to do this! What's This? Although the health section of an English as a second language class can be somewhat difficult to teach because of the technical terms and vocabulary, it is an important topic to know nevertheless. Because everyone goes to the hospital at least one point in their lives, it is a necessary lesson to teach that provides valuable life skills. One way to make this topic fun is involving a lot of student interaction such as skits and talking with a partner.
Vocabulary
  • Introduce the class to new vocabulary words that are related to the health and medical field. Set the difficulty of the words to correspond with the level of the class. These words can either be in their textbook, on flash cards, or a handout. As the class reads over the list, ask them to circle all the words that they do not know. Call on each student and ask which words they are not familiar with and write them on the board. Spend a few minutes explaining what these words mean and how they are used.
  • Questions and Answers
  • Ask the students to write five questions that pertain to the health field and include the new vocabulary. Make sure that you stress the use of who, what, where, when, why, and how in the questions. An example of these questions could be "Have you ever broken any bones?" or "When was the last time you have gone to the hospital?" Once everyone has finished writing their questions they will ask the person beside them what they have written. When one person has completed asking the questions the partners will then switch roles. Go around the class and ask each person to share one thing they have learned about their partner when everyone has completed their questions.

    Upper Intermediate Level 3
It seems like some people can stay forever in the intermediate level. Others seem to shoot ahead and pick up the language quickly. It is all a measure of talent, desire, stick-to-it-tiveness and ultimately what their purpose is for learning English. Some students are content with knowing just enough to get by.
