We had a wonderful and successful Dance Fest Saturday, July 31, and according to Ehgay Solis, coordinator and DJ, we netted about $4000 plus. We are grateful to Ehgay and Noemi Solis for spearheading this event and we cannot thank them enough. We are truly blessed by all the donors, those who contributed, helped, and attended to make this event a success. To God be the glory for a job well done.
Our young people and the young adults, together with youths from Bellaire UMC and Umphress UMC in Dallas, performed a great concert, Called to Shine , on Saturday, July 17. The money they raised will fund their mission project in Manila, Philippines through the Asuncion Perez Center, a Methodist institution, that will help in their Disaster Response program, a Comprehensive Health Project with the poor, and ministry which supports Women, Youth, and Children. They made more than $3,000 and we thank all those who contributed, donated and supported with their money, talents, skills and resources.
Our next Dance Fest will be on Saturday, July 31, and Ehgay Solis will be the DJ who will provide non-stop music and dancing. A fee of $20 will cover for dinner and dancing. Please invite your friends and relatives to come and have fun with us. It will start at 7 p.m. till 12 midnight.

The Philippines Chapel lit up at night, with the July 4 fireworks and the Washington Monument in the background. Photo by Jeff Tinsley 100 participants and presenters from the Philippines marked the centennial of the Philippine declaration of independence from Spain with a Folklife Festival program, " Pahiyas : A Philippine Harvest" on the National Mall, Washington, D.C. June 24-July 5, 1998. The program was the result of several years of research and development by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife Programs & Cultural Studies and the Philippine Cultural Center. Pahiyas , a Tagalog word meaning "gems" or something of value given to strengthen a relationship, became a theme of a program that was organized, in part, to connect Americans, and particularly Filipino Americans, with the cultures of the Philippines. This centennial year provided an opportunity to revisit a close and long-standing relationship between the two countries. Pahiyas also is the name of a harvest Festival in central Luzon and as such the choice of this program title reflects a harvest of traditions that were identified during an extensive research project in 1996-98. Some of the very best community-based artists who demonstrate mastery of their tradition came to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to represent their country. These artists were presented in contexts familiar to all Filipinos. A basketball court, always a focal point of any barrio or

WELCOME to our new website.
Before the Oregon Coast Filipino American Association (OCFAA) organized officially, a core group of Filipinas in the Coos Bay-Nort h Bend area had a tradition of putting together annual summer picnics and Christmas parties.  Using their own resources and in the bayanihan spirit,  they invited friends, relatives, and neighbors to these gatherings. It was a very pleasant introduction to the Filipi no co mmunity in the area. As time passed , the core group became aware of many more P inoy transplants, and the network w as growing rapidly.  The need for a formal organization was felt.  The first organizational meeting was on October 10, 1999.  The OCFAA was born.  Now, it is a strong and vibrant organization with a mission to " Keep our Cultures Alive ."  In time, the OCFAA networked with other Filipino American Associations in the area.  it is now part of t he Council for Filipino American Associations (CFAA), which serves as the umbrella organization for many groups in Oregon and Washington.
