    edit Stages
Film production occurs in five stages:
    • Development —The script is written and drafted into a workable blueprint for a film. Pre-production —Preparations are made for the shoot, in which cast and crew are hired, locations are selected, and sets are built. Production —The raw elements for the finished film are recorded. Post-Production —The film is edited; production sound (dialogue) is concurrently (but separately) edited, music tracks (and songs) are composed, performed and recorded, if a film is sought to have a score; sound effects are designed and recorded; and any other computer-graphic 'visual' effects are digitally added, all sound elements are mixed into "stems" then the stems are mixed then married to picture and the film is fully completed ("locked").

Screenwriting: How to Get and Work with an Agent
By C.J. Perry , posted 9 November 2010
As a screenwriter, there are a few ways to get your script sold and -possibly - made into a movie. Screenwriting contests have emerged as a way for unknown writers to get their name out there, but this requires either winning the contest or placing very high, and more than likely having to do it in multiple contests to get noticed. If you have the money and are a director as well as a writer, you can go the indie route, but providing you get the movie made, there is no guarantee of any kind of distribution. The most traditional way for a screenwriter to get his or her work sold and made into a movie is by getting an agent.

Fogata - Joao Ribeiro, 1992
Fogata is a short film by Joao Ribeiro adapted from the short story A Fogueira by the renowned Mozambican writer Mia Couto. This riddle brings to heart the driving tension of cinema (of character, setting, plot and drama) closer to the self consciousness of the story telling session. This form of cultural expression embedded in oral tradition has often formed the genesis of film makers of social conscience like Sembene who profess of their teaching and historian roles linking them to the historical functions of the griot. Nevertheless with Sembene the griot's storytelling is more of a function than a structure although at times we see the structure of Sembene's film like Borom Sarret also subscribe to the stylist device of oral storytelling methods. In Fogata the oral tradition of 'mindless fantasy' verging on the mythological is applied to a possible Westerner's incredulity. The lives portrayed are realistic, appearing plausible and yet they have a magical charm and straddle between being fantasies and popular realistic narratives. The story in Mama Tumaini (Tanzania) has that quality just as we find the same in the atmosphere in Marracuene (Mozambique)

What Does Film Making Take?
Film making is essentially the creation of a film. It involves all the processes surrounding the finished product including pre and post production issues. Film making starts by finding a good script, and moves on from there. Before the process of film making can begin, a script must be found. Studios are swarmed with millions of requests every year, from high profile film-makers, to the neighbor down the street. The majority of scripts will never be read. Some studios have a policy of not accepting unsolicited work, which means that 90% of the scripts sent in every year, are never read. In some cases the script goes directly from the mail bag to the trash can, as some film studios request their internal mail room workers to toss unsolicited scripts. The next step in the film making process is development. During film development, changes will be made to the script. The studio may choose to bring in a different writer, use a writer they have on staff, or ask the script writer to re-work the idea. The script will be re-worked until the producers are satisfied with the final result, and changes may still be made even as filming progresses. Pre-production is the next step in film making. Pre-production involves every step leading up to the actual filming. It includes scouting and choosing locations, hiring the crew and actors, and building sets. Production follows pre-production in the world of film making. During production, the movie is shot, scripts are changed as needed, and the sound is recorded.
