"Anthony Mann is a master at directing these cheapie films and making them look stylish." Reviewed by Dennis Schwartz A "B" thriller noted for its renown noir scene of the protagonist getting worked over by a ruthless gang in their dark basement hideaway while overhead a single light bulb swings back and forth from the force of the beating. Anthony Mann is a master at directing these cheapie films and making them look stylish. He gets the most out of this thin story because of the complementary performances of Raymond Burr and Steve Brodie. Burr makes for an excellent villain, while Brodie is refreshing as the innocent hero on the run from both the cops and the criminal gang. Married for only 4 months, independent trucker Steve Randall (Brodie) brings his wife Anne (Audrey Long) flowers to celebrate how happy they both are; but, while getting ready to celebrate that evening he receives a work related call offering him a chance to make more than he normally does for delivering merchandise. It turns out that Steve is being duped by an acquaintance he knew from before he went into the army, and is forced by them to deliver stolen merchandise. Somehow Steve manages to work the blinking lights on the truck to get the attention of a passing policeman in the warehouse area. But the cop is killed after wounding the beloved brother of the gangleader, Walt Radak (Burr). The brother is captured and convicted of murder, and he is sentenced to die in the electric chair.

Filmmaking: In the Beginning
In the years following the rise of the various social revolutions that took place in this country and abroad, the making of film changed vastly from the old world of film studio dominance to the exciting world of independent film. In the 50's, 60's and even 70's, independent film was synonymous with Underground film, art film, and foreign film.
Simply defined, a film that is independent is a film made outside of the umbrella of the studio without the funding or distribution options offered.
Producing a film independently has become quite popular, and this is due to the public no longer being satisfied with the Hollywood formula. The audiences of today have become much more sophisticated and expect something different and new every time they sit down to watch a film. The old Hollywood formula just doesn't cut it anymore for entertainment. It has been too predictable for film buffs. We look for cutting edge, quirky and groundbreaking films.
However, the most important aspect of independent film is that anyone with a song in their heart and the burning desire to make a film can now do so. We have the new technologies to thank for this as well as the public's yearning for raw footage with a gritty storyline. So this means you can achieve your dream of making a film, and you don't have to be a big film studio to get it made. It also means that you have the joys of the financial headaches and creative challenges.
There are three main phases of making a film: pre-production, production, and post-production. There might also be a 4th phase: distribution (if you're lucky). The longest phase of making a film is pre-production. This is also the most important part of the production, because it is what makes the film. Without good planning it will be difficult to get anything off the ground.

Making the Film - Quick Start Guide To Filmmaking
Last updated: 31-Jan-04 INTRODUCTION Welcome to the Quick-Start Guide to Film-Making. If you are a regular person with no formal training in the art and science of filmmaking but want to either make a film, or have an idea made into a film by someone else, then you've come to the right place. In the next few minutes I will tell you everything you need to know in order to be ready to start thinking seriously about making movies using the digital medium. This guide is only partially complete, and will continue to be updated as I gain further experience. At present I have built the guide to extend to making and producing a film. Once I have gained more experience, I will extend it to 'selling' a film as well. CONTENTS Two Paths If you are someone who has a great idea for a film, but doesn't know where to go from there, you have two main avenues available to you. Firstly, you can learn about digital moviemaking, and make the film yourself. My guide will show you how to do this. If, on the other hand, you are only interested in writing scripts, and don't want to be involved with shooting the film, your best bet is to go the script route. Path 1: Write The Script Read as many of your favourite scripts as you possibly can, then get hold of a really good script writing book. I recommend
