BACK Active Map Finland History City Of Perm ... Hameen Puunsorvaajat T he history of Perm is rather interesting. Our city owes its existence to V.N.Tatishchev (1686-1750),who is believed to be the founder of Perm. He was a well-know figure of his time,a comrade-in-arms of Peter the Great. Tatishchev was an outstanding mining engineer, a historian and a geographer.
I n 1723 it was an he who planned and supervised the construction of the Yegoshikhinsky Cooper Works and founded a factory settlement near the small river Yegoshikha ( or: Yagoshikha ),a tributary of the Kama.
T his marked the beginning of our city's existence ( the works was closed in 1788).The new town was named "Perm" ( the word is of Ugro-Finnic origin) and became the principal town of our provice in compliance with Catherine II's decree of November 20,1780.But as long ago as 1692 the village of Bryukhanovka situated on the Yagoshikha was officially registered. It can be called " the original mother " of Perm.
I t 1923 Perm became part of the Urals Region , the centre of which was Yekaterinburg.

Its location between Sweden and Russia kept it at the center of conflict for many years. Its location also meant that for much of its history, it would be ruled by either Sweden or Russia. It has been only in the last 100 years that Finland has enjoyed true independence. The history of people in Finland goes all the way back to when the country was covered in ice. In 8,000 BC, the ice started melting (in the south at first) revealing land suitable for humans. According to Finnish tradition, tribes began moving into Finland around this time. The ancestors of modern-day Finland moved into the area from present-day Russia and Estonia between 3,000 BC and the first century AD.

Finland history is very interesting and dates back to ancient times. The historical background of Finland provides a solid base to the rapidly developing economy of the country. A good and solid historical background acts as a backbone for any civilization and same is applied to Finland too.
Archeological evidences have proved that there were signs of human civilization in Finland about 100,000 years ago. From the 12th and 13th century itself, Finland made its solid place on the world map, known for the various interesting crusades and for building huge forts. In the late 15th and 16th century, Finland was under the dominant rule of Sweden, which was then considered to be a super power.
In 1808-1809, in the Finnish war, Sweden lost to Russia and Finland was also taken away from the domain of Sweden. Finland was made into an autonomous body with an independent legislative system. After gaining an autonomous status, Finland began to make considerable development in the field of industry and even coined its individual currency.
The history of Finland does not end here. In 1917, the year of the Russian Revolution, Finland declared itself as an independent nation and Finnish independence was granted on 6th December, 1917.

Last updated : Nov 2009 Finland History During the first millennium BC, various peoples settled in Finland, including the nomadic Saami who lived the north of the country and the Tavastians from central Europe. A notable feature of this migration was that the settlers spoke a language belonging to the Finno-Ugric group which also includes Hungarian and Estonian, and is quite distinct from the Indo-European languages spoken throughout most of the rest of Europe.

Finland : History
The Signal achievement of Finland has been its survival against great oddsagainst a harsh climate, physical and cultural isolation, and international dangers. Finland lies at higher latitudes than any other nation in the world, and the punishing northern climate has complicated life there considerably. Geographically, Finland is on the remote northern periphery, far from the mass of Europe, yet near two larger states, Sweden and Russialater the Soviet Union, which have drawn it into innumerable wars and have controlled its development. The most serious challenges to Finland's freedom came during World War II, when the Finns twice faced attack by overwhelming Soviet forces. They fought heroically, but were defeated both times, and the Soviets were narrowly prevented from occupying and absorbing Finland. Since World War II, the Soviet Union's status as a superpower has meant that it could at any time end Finland's existence as a separate state. Recognizing this, the Finns have sought and achieved reconciliation with the Soviets, and they have tenaciously pursued a policy of neutrality, avoiding entanglement in superpower conflicts. The long era of peace after World War II made possible the blossoming of Finland as a modern, industrialized, social-welfare democracy. By the 1980s, the intense social conflicts of previous decades were largely reconciled, and the nation's relationships with other nations were apparently stable.
