Archer Fish - Freshwater ! In February 2007, for the first time in the world, Ausyfish spawned and hatched the first freshwater archer fish. Brood fish were collected in the dry season of 2004 and held in freshwater ponds. Brood fish were collected in freshwater, raised and conditioned in freshwater. All spawning and raising of larvae was done in pure freshwater. So far fish have been raised to 13 cm. This breakthrough comes after 3 years of on farm development research. Brood fish behaviour has been studied carefully by Alan Sambell, farm manager. Finally the time was right to give a spawning attempt a go. This resulted in the first successful spawn of this species in the world. Pictured right is a view of three day-old larvae. Below left: A group of larvae. Below right: Alan Sambell, who managed this project, examines a jar containing hundreds of tiny archer fish larvae. Right, Close view of a 10 day old Archer fish. Welcome to the official website of The Perchfishers Group. We are a relatively small, select, group of specimen hunters who currently have 50 plus members. Some of our more famous current members include John Wilson, Fred J Taylor, Bob James and Archie Braddock.
Our aim is to further the knowledge of Perch as a species including the methods and locations for its capture, with special emphasis on large specimens. We do this by the sharing of knowledge and by fishing in a true spirit of sportsmanship and friendship with all other members of the Perchfishers. Despite our apparently small membership, we have recorded a number of successes over the years, including the publication of the Book Of The Perch and a substantial four figure sum being donated to the Anglers Conservation Association We produce a magazine called The Perchfisher, which is currently issued twice a year, and issue regular newsletters to our members. Other benefits of membership include an Annual General Meeting with guest speakers and fish-ins which are generally arranged on restricted waters. The Perchfishers are small in number because we choose to be. Once a member current annual subscriptions are £20.00

Monday August 28, 2006 I love fried bass filets so I keep some to eat. Here is a step by step article on how to filet a bass, with pictures. You can filet just about any kind of fish using this method and you end up with a boneless, skinless piece of meat. Last week I fileted a small bass and three bluegill from my pond - with cole slaw and french fries they were a full meal for two.

      Bluegill Fishing in Missouri
Do you remember your first fishing trip or maybe your child's first fishing trip? Chances are these early experiences involved worms, bobbers, and the bluegill. This scrappy, highly cooperative, member of the sunfish Family is an important part of many childhood fishing memories. Although the bluegill is an ideal fish for young anglers, their popularity does not end there. The readily available, tasty bluegill is sought by anglers of all ages and abilities. If you doubt the importance of bluegill to Missouri anglers, note the number of people fishing with bobbers and worms the next time you fish a public lake. In fact, bluegill have the highest harvest rate of any fish in Missouri's lakes.

Angelfish (P. Scalare). If the babies are left with the parents they usually won't spawn again until the babies are removed from their tank. The Bala Shark - Balantiocheilus melanopterus. Is this fish a good tank mate for your Oscars? Breeding Guppy Fish Guppies are livebearers, which means that every 30 days or so, the female will drop a litter of babies that are fully formed miniatures of their parents. In a community tank with other types of fish or in a tank with many adult guppies, the babies stand an excellent chance of becoming a snack for the adult fish. Breeding Kuhli Loach The most disturbing aspect of my breeding adventures is that I have absolutely no idea what triggers the spawning activity. I know that it is possible to stimulate spawning with pituitary hormones, but I don't use them. Bronze Corydora Corydoras aeneus should be kept in groups of six or more with other community tank fishes, such as small characins, livebearers and rasboras.

Betta One of the most beautiful of all freshwater tropical fish, male bettas need to be kept as singles due to aggression.
Blue Gourami The fairly hardy Blue Gourami gets to be about 6 inches as adults. Can be temperamental with other gouramis.
Dwarf Gourami The Dwarf Gourami is another beauty that can get aggressive with other dwarf gouramis.
Kissing Gourami Best to keep only one Kissing Gourami per tank because they will pester smaller Kissing Gouramis.
Mahachai Betta One of the newest additions to the Betta scene, this species is mostly wild caught.
Pearl Gourami Male Pearl Gouramis may bicker with each other, but overall this is generally a good community fish.
    Sparkling
Gourami A smaller gourami species with very nice colors.

    77. Channel Catfish Identification, Facts And Tips Page
Channel catfish description and useful information such as size, habits, tips.
    http://www.thejump.net/fishlist/channelcat.htm
Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus ) reach a maximum size of nearly 60 pounds. Channel cats look much like other catfish in that they have 'skin' instead of scales and whiskers around the mouth. Channel catfish are often mistake for Blue Catfish. It is easy to tell them apart by looking at the anal fin. On a Blue Cat the anal fin has the look of having been cut with scissors, whereas; on the Channel Cat the fin anal fin is not as straight, having some curve through out its entire length. Channel Catfish occur throughout the Mississippi River Valley, and down to the Mexico border. Channel Catfish are the most commonly raised aquaculture species in the U.S.
Channel Catfish are very similiar to Blue Catfish but prefer slow to moderate current instead of the swift current that the Blue Catfish prefer. They also prefer a sand or rock bottom much more than a mud bottom.
    Key Notes and Tips:
*Channel Catfish are only rarely caught on artificials.
*Channel Catfish are sometimes caught by hand, this is a process called 'grabbing or noodling'!
*Trot lines and hoop nets are used by commercial fisherman to harvest their catch.

Currently I am keeping Endler's guppies, albino bristlenose, flamebacks, eye biters, ramshorn snails and some large freshwater shrimp. Publications e-Aquarium.com.au and aquariumfishshop.com are all my work I also have a number of squidoo lenses with aquarium articles such as http://www.squidoo.com/flowerhorn and http://www.squidoo.com/aquarium-filters .
