General Tropical Fish Information
Welcome to Just Tropical Fish, your on-line guide for general tropical fish information, but specifically about freshwater tropical fish. As the name suggests, freshwater tropical fish usually originate from warm countries in places like South America, Africa and Asia, and live in fresh water, as distinct from salt water (fish that live in salt water are referred to as marine fish). They are also used to living in warm water, so in most cases need to live in an aquarium with heating, as distinct from coldwater fish (ie goldfish, koi carp), which do not need heating, and which can live in either an aquarium or an outside pond. The beauty of freshwater tropical fish is the variety of colours, shapes and sizes that they come in, each aquarium is unique, based on the variety of fish and the set up. An aquarium filled with freshwater tropical fish can be a real feature in your home. Having an aquar ium filled with freshwater tropical fish is a very rewarding hobby, and if looked after correctly can give hours of pleasure. Just sitting and watching the fish swim can be very calming and relaxing, which is why they are often found in the dentist waiting room.

OK!
Time to dust the website shelfs off!
It is a new season folks, gets your lines wet and keep them coming!
Folks, I just wanted to let you all in on a problem I am having with this site. I have recieved a few very threatening emails from some individuals very upset at me about my "Petition ODNR" page, they are commercial fishermen, obviously. I will say this, I understand the need to make a living, but when you do it illegally, then you are a dirt bag law breaking loser. I am in a law enforcement type job, you break the law, you deal with those consequences. I WILL NOT take it down from my site, ever. In fact I will start a petition for the Tri-sate area of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. This something I really believe in and my stance is firm.

Welcome to welscatfish.co.uk
At last the mild weather looks as though it may be around the corner signaling the approach of Spring. Now is the time to start thinking about planning your first catfish trip of the year. The rise in water temperatures will stir the catfish from the silt and put them in the mood to feed, this is the time to take advantage of an early feeding spell and bag your first cat of the season.
Updates
We will be adding some new articles to the site this month and updating all the venue section to make the site even more informative. Check the site over the next month for the latest updates.

Phil's 90lb Catfish
65lb Cat for Macca

Description The Wels Catfish has a long, scaleless body like an eel, with a large head and mouth. The inside of the mouth has rows of 100s of tiny little velcro like teeth on the top and bottom of its jaw, these are used to hold its prey before passing it to the two sets of crushing pads at the back of the throat. It has six barbules, two long ones on the upper jaw for detecting its prey and four shorter ones on the lower jaw. It has a small almost pointless looking dorsal fin whilst the anal fin stretches backwards until it almost reaches the tail. The colouration of the Wels can vary from fish to fish but normally they have dark eyes with a dark greeny black body with creamy yellowish sides creating a mottled effect. Albino looking catfish are sometimes found but are very rare, these have red eyes and a yellow/creamy colouration to its body.

Where to go to Catching HUGE channel cats in Canada.
Nov 1st. UPDATE I went directly to the Mill Creek and had my lines in the water at 10:55. Hook a very nice size Channel Cat on my bobber rig at 11:20. This fish was 25 inches and topped out at 7 pounds 10 ounces. This hit the thawed Shad, no bites on the other baits I had in the water. 11:50 my outside dead line got hit hard. I pulled back and set the hook on a nice size fish. This was a Blue Cat that gave a good fight in the 45 feet deep water. This fish also hit the Shad; it was 28 inches and weighed 10 pounds. 13:00 moved to just out from the water sewer sign; no bites there so packed it in at 14:00 and headed for the ramp and home. Tight lines to all. Here is the 10 pound Blue Cat from the Nov 1st. trip.

the White Rabbit Verses
Musky Fishing is a very difficult sport to consistently obtain successful results. Yet, it is mostly this challenging factor which makes the endeavor incredibly appealing to so many. It is so much more then just fishing. The musky is the highest-ranking hunter in the lake. A musky fisherman is the hunter of the hunter. It is unlike deer hunting in that a deer is not a predator.
Many other factors add to the enjoyment of the hunt. One, which I have high regards for, is the opportunity to observe so much of our great outdoors. I find it all enjoyable, from the eagles and osprey to the summer thunderstorms and fall snowstorms. It is amazing the tranquility one can find on the water. Sharing fishing time with a loved one can mean more then words can express. I, also, relish all the wonderful people I meet in this pursuit and of these, the priceless friendships acquired.
