Saltwater Aquarium Butterflyfish
Saltwater Aquarium Butterflyfish are probably the most strikingly beautiful of all saltwater fish. Butterflyfish are harder to keep as a rule than most other saltwater fish species because of their specialized diet. Some are obligate coral feeders so unless you are willing to buy live corals for food, those ones should be avoided. The Raccoon Butterflyfish, Copper-banded Butterflyfish, and Merten's Butterflyfish have been used to help rid reef aquariums of glass anemone, also called aiptasia. Butterflyfish have an oval shaped body that is very thin laterally. This shape, along with a protruding mouth, allow them to move easily among the rocks on a coral reef and find food in the nooks and crannies there.
Most members of this family are grazers that feed on algae, sponges and corals. However, some are omnivorous and eat small and planktonic animals. For this reason the majority are NOT recommended for a reef aquarium. Young fish may be easier to acclimate to aquarium conditions and should be fed several times a day. All Butterflyfish fishes should be offered a large variety of food including live brine, flakes, and frozen foods of all kinds including Formula I, Formula II, Angel Formula and spirulina. Several sponge based frozen foods are now available and can be fed to Butterflyfish. Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish

Puffer Fish
Puffers will eat all types of food and should be fed a variety of meaty foods such as shrimp, fish, clams, etc., along with a supplement of vegetable fare to provide necessary nutrients. It is also important to provide hard shelled crabs, mussels, and shellfish in their diet to wear down their teeth and prevent them from overgrowing. Puffers are semi-aggressive and should be kept one per tank. They will eat smaller fishes and should not be housed with any delicate slow-moving species.
Arothron Blue/White Puffer
Arothron meleagris
Description: This species is highly sought after, not regularly available and they and sell very quickly, so be sure to grab them fast when available! When first introduced into the aquarium this can be a somewhat shy species, requiring a large tank with plenty of shelter and tankmates that aren't too aggressive. Do not keep this fish in smaller tanks, it does not like confined spaces and will never adapt in such a situation. Once it is fully adjusted to the aquarium it is a hardy fish that can do great in a large tank with bold fishes such as triggers, groupers and larger wrasse.
Recommended Tank size: minimum 90 gallon
Food and diet: Carnivore, provide a varied diet that includes frozen preparations for carnivores.

    Organization of Fish Identification Section

For those unfamiliar with the parts of a fish,
... a diagram is included for reference. Description: the details most readily observed have been given top priority, since the angler has only moments to decide whether a fish is or is not a legal catch. Fin-ray counts are supplied when essential. Similar Fish: many fish have "look-alikes," other fish that resemble them closely. In such instances, the most readily seen differences are given. Where found: although the ocean has no fences, many fish are locked into particular habitats, information that often tells the angler where to drop the hook. Size: anglers usually judge the size of a fish by its weight, which simplifies record keeping. Scientists use length, since age/length relationships are more reliable than age/weight.
Note: The Florida records quoted are from the Department of Environmental Protection's printed publication, Fishing Lines and are not necessarily the most current ones. The records are provided as only as a benchmark.

Alaska salmon swim wild throughout the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska and are quite plentiful. More than 213 million salmon were commercially harvested in Alaska in 2004. This was the second largest harvest of salmon in Alaska history, and exceeded the predicted harvest by 51 million.
    King Salmon - Chinook:
Lightly spotted on their blue -green back, chinook salmon live from five to seven years, and weigh up to 120 pounds. Known also as Chinook salmon, they have the highest oil-content, which is what gives a salmon its rich flavor. The king is the largest of all salmon species, and the most desirable to sport fishers.
