When you enter this old night club on Sunday nights this summer and fall, its bohemian charms are still very present, warm and inviting. At 6:15 PM it’s well worn hardwood floors resonate with the pulsating sounds of footwork, song, castanets, syncopated hand clapping and guitar. Carolina Lugo and her daughter Carolé Acuńa and their company of Flamenco musicians and dancers paint a visual canvas in movement through dance for a very special evening of entertainment. If you have not seen this group in one of it’s many Concert Hall performances, this is an opportunity to experience their high energy and passion for their art that defines a new dimension in Flamenco and Spanish dance traditions." -Richard Provenzano

Flamenco and Me
It all started with the stamping noise at the dance studio at a shopping mall where I frequently visited. At that time I wonder what it was all about. After receiving 10 years of formal training in Ballet and Jazz dance and I recognized that dance is to be light and always be graceful. What can you produce with stamping your feet so hard? It has to be a very angry dance! And I am half correct... I was not too inspired but I signed up for a trial class anyway. And that's how I got myself started with Flamenco. When I first watched a dance video "Carmen", I was deeply impressed. The strong expression and feelings. Anger, distress, death which are common themes of Flamenco, find their way to express on stage with such intensity. I then began my research of Flamenco, I bought books, looked up on Internet info and waited every opportunity of Flamenco dance troops performing in Singapore.

History of Flamenco Dancing
Flamenco is the traditional song and dance of the Gypsies (flamencos) of Andalusia in southern Spain. The art form developed over several centuries from Gypsy, Moorish, Andalusian, and other roots. Flamenco music and dance became popular in the early 19th century as café entertainment.
Canto baile grande or hondo duende , the transformation of the musician by the depth of the emotion; intermedio pequeńo Individual genres include the light bulerías ; the more serious soleares and its lighter descendant, the alegrías ; the fandangos grandes , a serious adaptation of a lighter non-Gypsy genre; the malagueńas , an offshoot of the fandangos ; and cantos grandes such as the siguiriyas gitanas and saetas Both text and melody of these songs, like the flamenco dance, are improvised within traditional structures such as characteristic rhythms and chords. Zapateado , intricate toe- and heel-clicking steps, characterizes the men's dance; the traditional women's dance is based more on grace of body and hand movement.

Series Summary
Flamenco dancing originated in the southern region of Spain in, what is believed to be, the early 1500's. Flamenco is a combination of singing, clapping, chanting, guitar playing and, of course, dancing. When the Gypsies arrived in Spain at this time they helped bring the intensity to the dance. The dancer performs with a fervent passion that is very expressive and at times can seem almost tortured while maintaining grace and dignity. It wasn't until the 1700's that flamenco came into it's own and by the end of the 1800's it achieved it's peak in popularity. In this series of video clips you will learn tips and techniques on the footwork, attire and attitude needed to dance the Flamenco. The videos give detailed lessons on using shawls, fans and castanets. Close ups on equipment and feet will walk you through every nuance taught. These videos will show step by step details on the

By yipbop, on May 27th, 2010 One of the unique dances today is the Flamenco . This dance is rooted deeply in the cultures of Spain, though it is mostly centered in Andalusia, yet included in almost every social event in both European and Spanish countries today. This type of dance is closely followed by the rhythm and tempo of a guitar and the staccato clapping of the audience. Today, it is one of the most celebrated dances in the known world. History The Flamenco 's history dates back to the Golden Age of the gypsies, though historians only found vague records in regards to where the dance actually came from. Studies show that the Flamenco is actually more into the category of music than a dance. The music, though its original composition was lost in history, are said to contain influences from Muslim and Christian cultures. Many researchers believe that the Flamenco did not exist before 1780. Gypsies who were known to dance the Flamenco during their social gathers, mostly in secret, does not know when or where the dance came from only that it was passed on from generation to generation.

Flamenco Dancing Lessons: Flamenco Dance Steps
Flamenco dancing is the culmination of beauty, grace, emotion, sensuality and the zestfulness of the human form. It is a celebration of all the virtues that are associated with the civilized society in all its beauty. So what exactly is flamenco and how to get started with flamenco dancing lessons? Flamenco dancing, is an art form that evolved in the Andalusia region of Spain, consisting mostly of the southern part of the country. The dance was mainly a form of expression for the local Gypsies, who are believed to have created the form in harmony with the cultural and nomadic lifestyle of Spain. The dance is typically characterized by a pompous music, singing and dancing accompanied by short claps to differentiate different musical notes, stamping and heel movement in an artistic manner. It is important to understand this context to impart the crucial emotional appeal to the dance. The same dance underwent a revival in the 1950s, when it became more refined, being performed in concert halls, dance auditoriums and acquired a professional character, across the world.
Starting with Flamenco Dancing Lessons
The most important point to begin learning a dance, specially one like flamenco is that, one should not give up. It is not natural for everybody to perform the most graceful movements from the word go. Different people take different time duration, to master the steps. Therefore, relax and remember, trying persistently is the hallmark of a good flamenco dancer. Flamenco dance steps are very rapid, successive movements of the feet, which make that distinctive tapping sound. In order to get those the feet movement should be fast and at the same time each step sound must be clearly distinguished from the other. The best way to achieve perfection in this form, is to break down the steps and master each segment well, before integrating the whole art form.
