Reverse osmosis is the finest water filtration method known. This process will allow the removal of particles as small as ions from a solution. It is used to purify water and remove salts and other impurities in order to improve the color, taste or properties of the fluid. R.O. uses a membrane that is semi-permeable, allowing the fluid that is being purified to pass through it, while rejecting other ions and contaminants from passing This technology uses a process known as crossflow to allow the r.o. membrane to continually clean itself. This is the reason of why an r.o. element can last many years before clogging or need replacement.

Making Toothpaste a Toxic Drug

by Jim Lynn If you haven't read the back of your toothpaste label recently, you are in for shock. On my desk in front of me is a tube of Kids Crest, billed as a "Sodium FLUORIDE Anticavity Toothpaste." Straight forward enough except for one thing...there's a new WARNING LABEL on the back that reads; "WARNINGS: Keep out of reach of children under 6 years of age. If you accidentally swallow more than used for brushing, seek PROFESSIONAL HELP or contact a POISON CONTROL center immediately." If the words "professional help" and "poison control center" don't grab your attention, they should. Since mid-1997, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has mandated all toothpastes containing FLUORIDE to carry this warning. And for good reason.
An overwhelming, growing body of evidence, plus old WWII secret government documents now available all point to FLUORIDE as being a toxic drug NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. (1) Even the FDA has finally raised an eyebrow...enough to mandate this warning be included on labeling. The mandate is significant because it means the FDA now regards fluoride laden toothpaste as a potential toxic drug!
The percentage of fluoride cannot be above 1000 ppm for adult and 500 ppm for children. The Crest "Kid's" formula contains 0.15% w/v fluoride ion. (2) So how is that legally possible? It's obvious that Crest is deliberately targeting small children ...the same group of kids the WARNING LABEL is pointing to.

8. What are the beneficial effects of fluoride on teeth?
  • Does fluoride protect teeth from cavities? What fluoridated products have been used to prevent cavities?
The source document for this Digest states: It has been recognized for over five decades that fluoride may have both beneficial and potentially harmful effects on dental health. While the prevalence of dental caries is inversely related to a range of concentrations of fluoride in drinking-water consumed, the prevalence of dental fluorosis has been shown to be positively related to fluoride intake from many sources (Fejerskov et al., 1988, 1996). Public health programmes seeking to maximize the beneficial effects of fluoride on dental health through the introduction of fluoridated drinking-water have, at the same time, strived to minimize its adverse fluorotic effects on teeth. Based upon the studies conducted by Dean and colleagues five decades ago, the "optimum" level of fluoride in drinking-water, associated with the maximum level of dental caries protection and minimum level of dental fluorosis, was considered to be approximately 1 mg/litre. The effects of fluoride on dental health were examined by a WHO Expert Committee (WHO, 1994). IPCS "Environmental Health Criteria for Fluorides", (EHC 227),

Even though the ADA is an association, not a governmental agency, it has a great deal of influence on dental matters through its lobbyists in Washington, DC and the almost universal and dominant presence of its members on State Dental Boards. These Boards have the power to remove a license from a practicing dentist in the state, and thus can keep dentists in line on controversial issues like fluoridation. We hope that this website will encourage more dentists to break ranks with the ADA and rescue this profession from its shortsighted promotion of this dangerous, unethical and unnecessary practice.

Fluoride
Facts About Fluoride
Cavities used to be a fact of life. But over the past few decades, tooth decay has been reduced dramatically. The key reason: fluoride Research has shown that fluoride reduces cavities in both children and adults. It also helps repair the early stages of tooth decay even before the decay becomes visible. Many people continue to be misinformed about fluoride and fluoridation. That is unfortunate. Fluoride is like any other natural nutrient; it is safe and effective when used appropriately. "Fluoride is needed throughout the lifespan to prevent and control tooth decay. Better directed use of fluoride can lead to considerable savings in public and private resources without compromising the tremendous advances we've made in reducing tooth decay."
Fluoride: Nature's Cavity Fighter
Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in almost all foods and water supplies. The fluoride ion comes from the element fluorine. Fluorine, the 13th most abundant element in the earth's crust, is never encountered in its free state in nature. It exists only in combination with other elements as a fluoride compound. Fluoride compounds are naturally present in water, soil, air, and in most foods. Fluoride is effective in preventing and reversing the early signs of dental caries (tooth decay). Researchers have shown that there are several ways through which fluoride achieves its decay-preventive effects.

75. The Story Of Fluoridation
fluoride started out as an unwanted contaminant. Examines how it was made beneficial, from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

The Story of Fluoridation
I t started as an observation, that soon took the shape of an idea. It ended, five decades later, as a scientific revolution that shot dentistry into the forefront of preventive medicine. This is the story of how dental science discovered-and ultimately proved to the world-that fluoride, a mineral found in rocks and soil, prevents tooth decay.Although dental caries remains a public health worry, it is no longer the unbridled problem it once was, thanks to fluoride.
A Mysterious Disorder In 1909 Dr. McKay (r) persuaded the Colorado State Dental Association to invite Dr. Green Vardiman Black (l), one of the nation's most eminent dental researchers, to attend 1909 convention where McKay's findings were to be presented. The two men began joint research and discovered other areas of the country where brown staining of teeth occured F A Fruitful Collaboration
M cKay's first big break came in 1909, when renowned dental researcher Dr. G.V. Black agreed to come to Colorado Springs and collaborate with him on the mysterious ailment. Black, who had previously scoffed that it was impossible such a disorder could go unreported in the dental literature, was lured West shortly after the Colorado Springs Dental Society conducted a study showing that almost 90 percent of the city's locally born children had signs of the brown stains. When Black arrived in the city, he too was shocked by the prevalence of Colorado Brown Stain in the mouths of native-born residents. He would write later:

The following is an extract from: - http://www.westonaprice.org/envtoxins/fluoride.html Tea In their drive to fluoridate the public water supplies, dental health officials continue to pretend that no other sources of fluoride exist. This notion becomes absurd when one looks at the fluoride content in tea. Tea is very high in fluoride because tea leaves accumulate more fluoride (from pollution of soil and air) than any other edible plant.49,50,51 It is well established that fluoride in tea gets absorbed by the body in a manner similar to the fluoride in drinking water.49,52 Fluoride content in tea has risen dramatically over the last 20 years due to industry contamination. Recent analyses have revealed a fluoride content of 17.25 mg per teabag or cup in black tea, and a whopping 22 mg of soluble fluoride ions per teabag or cup in green tea. Aluminum content was also highover 8 mg. Normal steeping time is five minutes. The longer a tea bag steeped, the more fluoride and aluminum were released. After ten minutes, the measurable amounts of fluoride and aluminum almost doubled.53

Dietary Fluoride Supplement Protocol for the New Millennium
Euan Swan © J Can Dent Assoc 2000; 66:362-3 T he appropriate use of fluoride provides a tremendous benefit in the prevention and management of dental caries. To ensure the use of fluoride is not jeopardized in Canada, fluoride policies need to be framed to maximize this benefit while minimizing the risk of dental fluorosis. During the 1990s, CDA updated its policy on dietary fluoride supplements in keeping with the best available information. It is now time to update the policy once again. The need for change became apparent as credible and concerned investigators presented sound arguments for restricting the use of fluoride supplements in children. CID reviewed the evidence supporting both caries reduction and the risk of dental fluorosis associated with the use of fluoride supplements. Based on the clinical research available at the end of 1999, the committee confirmed that the use of dietary fluoride supplements in children is associated with fluorosis while the caries protection effect of supplements is considered variable. Fluoride supplements need only be considered for patients at high risk for dental caries and even then may be unnecessary if patients are receiving adequate fluoride from other sources For older children whose first permanent tooth has erupted and for adults, fluoride supplements provide an intraoral fluoride dose before being ingested. This intraoral level of fluoride promotes post-eruptive enamel protection and has a therapeutic effect on dental caries. The topical exposure from a 1-mg fluoride tablet dissolved in the mouth is equivalent to brushing with an average adult brush load (1 gm) of 1,000 ppm fluoride dentifrice. Individuals with limitations that restrict standard oral hygiene practices may benefit from using chewable tablets or lozenges, although the evidence supporting this use is not yet available.
