Morris dancing gives you a great opportunity to enjoy yourself while keeping fit, meeting other people, touring the country and getting involved in community events, festivals, street entertainment, television - you name it, Morris dancers have been there! Lots of people are natural dancers, but modern life may offer relatively few accessible dance opportunities - Morris is one. There are very few pastimes that combine a really good social life with a rewarding and challenging activity - the chance to travel and the option of getting involved in local events in your home area. Besides, if everyone knew about the free beer and the cut-price festival tickets... Taster session: 2005(old kit) We welcome new dancers, of both sexes, and with any amount of (including no) experience. The best time of year to join is during the Autumn or Winter, when we prepare for the following Summer. We practice on most Fridays from September to the end of April. Dancing lasts for a couple of hours before we retire to the pub. Give it a go this year!

Knotted Chord Folk Dance Band
for your barn dance or ceilidh
Home Information Musicians Diary Photos ... Links One of the UK's top folk dance bands, Knotted Chord is a regular visitor to folk dance clubs and folk festivals around the country and is a popular choice for private parties including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries etc. No previous dance experience necessary! A "caller" can be provided with the band to explain and walk through each dance before it is danced to the music. Alternatively, the band is happy to work with any caller who may be booked separately by the event organisers. Knotted Chord plays a wide variety of folk dance music, suitable for all levels of dance experience and all age groups. The repertoire covers more than three centuries of English music, as well as tunes from other parts of the British Isles. The band has a strong interest in American Contra dance music and can also provide a sprinkling of tunes from most parts of Europe. Band size can be varied to suit individual occasions and budgets. We work most often as three musicians plus caller, but this can vary from two to five musicians depending on the individual event.

Events Notice Board Bookings Join Us ... Links Click here for a link to our childrens group. Home - About English Miscellany Page 1 of 3 We dance, play and sing because we enjoy it! England has a rich tradition of folk dance and music, rooted deep in the past but still living in the present and changing into the future. We want to share our enjoyment of all this with others, both with visitors from overseas who are interested in England, and at home with anyone who appreciates this intrinsic part of our culture. Our group is different from most folk groups in that we perform a wide range of dance forms. Our shows usually involve most of our sections. So, in 30 minutes you might see us:
  • in couples dancing a lively country dance in Victorian costume or a stately court dance in early 18th century costume, as a group wearing clogs stepping out a virtuoso Northern step dance, in a team clashing sticks and ringing bells in a Cotswold Morris dance, wearing bright red sashes and whirling slings in a rousing North-west Morris dance, singing an old English song in folk harmony or performing mumming plays and our musicians will be leading and encouraging us for all of these with a range of traditional and modern instruments.

For more information contact Heather Edwards Tel 01424 222382

The Bexhill International Folk Dance Group was begun in September 1993 BY Lily Avery and Heather Edwards, little imaging it would last for so long. Our small friendly international folk dancing group meets socially to enjoy dance and music from around the world. All dances are taught. There is no need to bring a partner as we all mix in for couple dances.
Sadly Lily no longer teaches or dances but we have a number of teachers each with differing interests and expertise. Rowena Martin specialises in Balkan, Israeli, Armenian and Russian dances, Beryl Hartley teaches English dances and Heather Edwards teaches general international - line, circle and couple dances including some from more exotic locations such as China, Japan, Tahiti and South America. We aim to provide entertaining evenings in Bexhill with a wide variety of international folk dances.
We meet purely socially and do not give displays. The photographs were taken at our 10th anniversary party. Just dress comfortably for normal dance evenings

95. Official
Dance group specializing in Polish folk dances. Includes details of competitions and festivals, with image galleries and video clips.
http://www.angelfire.com/de/lechowia/official.html
With its own unique flair and style, Toronto's award winning Lechowia Polish Canadian Dance Company recreates for the stage the rich artistry of polish folk culture while delighting its audiences at home and abroad! Founded in 1977 as an amateur dance organization, Lechowia takes its name from Lech, a prominent Polish legendary figure credited for establishing the Polish nation. Today, the Company comprises over 200 dancers, singers and musicianc ranging from children to adults. Lechowia varied repertoire consists of several different choreographic arrangements from the many regions of Poland, including the stately court dances, the Mazur and the Polonaise made popular by Frederic Chopin; the high spirited Polka; the colorful Krakowiak; the fiery Oberek; the dazzling Goralski mountaineer’s dance as well as the beautiful songs of Silesia. Lechowia's expression of Polish folk culture transcends the traditional view of folk dancing as a limited artistic event. The Company’s pace and flamboyant staging, combined with its use of comedy and theatrics, sprinkled with the occasional ballad, produces a smooth transition to popular entertainment. This formula has proven to be successful since Lechowia has won numerous awards over the years including those for the Best Entertainment, Best Musical Theatre, Choreography, Staging and Costumes while performing at Metro International Caravan Festival’s "Krakow" Pavilion in Toronto. Over the years, touring Canada has become an important part of the Company’s development. Invitations to dance at various venues have seen Lechowia perform from coast to coast in Canada, including representing the Province of Ontario at Expo ’86 in Vancouver B.C. Most notably, visiting dignitaries to Canada such as His Holiness John Paul II and Lech Walesa were entertained by Lechowia’s performances in their honour, which were broadcast live on national television.
