If you are, I applaud you, and hopefully reading this will motivate you to continue on in your frugal ways. As for me, I am being forced to learn how to stretch a dollar because of the current economic slump. My Husband lost his job, and although I still have my job, it makes things unimaginably tight. The first place we looked to cut our expenses was our bills. We decided that we can use our internet connection and our computer to watch our favorite television shows, and to entertain the kids with their daily dose of cartoons too. We were able to cut seventy dollars off our bills by getting rid of cable. We are saving on our natural gas bill by wearing warmer clothing and turning down the thermostat. We also turned our water heater way down, and only turn it up when we are about to shower or run the dishwasher. Our gas bill has literally been cut in half because of these two changes.

Build Your Own Greenhouse and you can Grow Produce Year Round
You can build your own greenhouse for fruits, vegetables and flowers. I did, so you can too. Whether you call it a greenhouse, hothouse, high tunnel, hoop house or whatever else, the idea is to create an environment that is conducive to growing plants. This environment controls temperature and humidity, and reduces the effects of wind and temperature changes. A greenhouse is part of my plan for frugal living. It produces fresh vegetables of good quality and wide variety. With good planning, a greenhouse can help you eliminate the produce bill altogether. There are many styles of greenhouses to choose from, and many ways you can cover the building. I have looked at kits on the market and decided that building my own is the best idea. Doing it myself gives me the strength I am looking for, designs to fit my needs, and something just the right size. Of course

Frugal Living, the only way to live life Frugal Living
    Welcome to Frugal Living
What Is www.FrugalLiving.biz? Most of the time when someone hears the words "frugal living" or "living frugal" they think of cheapskates. Well it's true that most frugal people are cheap, however we don't dig through garbage or save bottles up like many think. Frugal living is the same of living everyone else lives. The only difference is that instead of buying high end products, frugal people buy things at a discount. People who are "frugal living" also understand that sometimes alternative routes must be taken in order to save cash. The outcome of living frugally is that we save much cash while living the same kind of life as everyone else. This is exactly why FrugalLiving.biz was created. Here at Frugal Living we share our knowledge on the topic of living frugal, we discuss questions between other frugal members, and we help each other out. Please feel free to take advantage of Frugal Living and learn and share your cash saving tips!

Winning Our Case in Small Claims Court
Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 The following is a guest post from reader Elle, who shares her story above being treated poorly by her mechanic and how she got justice via small claims court. She writes about handling family and finances responsibly at CoupleMoney.com
    Car Repair Gone Bad
We had used this repair shop before and never had any trouble. If a repair was going to take longer than a day, they would call us when the work was completed. When I made arrangements with the mechanic he said it would take a couple of days for the work on the transmission. After going around the corner and driving a 1/10 th of a mile, the car sputtered and died (a span of 5 minutes). My husband pushed it to a side street and called the shop immediately. He explained the problem and was told that he should let the car dry out.
    Giving Us a Hard Time
We were frustrated and down to one car. Eventually we were able to find another mechanic who was able to diagnose the problem and fix it. The problem was that the repairs for the electrical work were over a grand and we had to get a rental car. After much deliberation, we decided to go ahead and file a small claims lawsuit.

How I Spent My Summer: HOMELESS
    emergency fund home ownership homelessness
It has been quite some time since I have posted here, and I thought I would finally write about the reason why. My summer wasn't spent on vacation or at the beach. I spent the summer being homeless.
It wasn't because I could no longer afford my mortgage, I got fired from my job or got caught up in the housing market bust. No, it started with something that seemed initially to be a very minor problem: a leaky pipe.
It started with a small wet spot on the living room floor. At first, I thought maybe one of my dog's had an accident on the carpet. By the next morning, the wet spot had grown much larger, covering about one-fourth of the living room. I knew then that there was a leak. We called in the plumber, and he confirmed that suspicion and gave us even worse news: a pipe had burst under the foundation of the house. The water would need to be shut off to the entire house immediately.
Within a day or so, the house took on the smell of mold and mildew. We could no longer stay in the house. I immediately called my insurance company and they made arrangements for my family to stay in a hotel. Little did we know that a weekend in the hotel would turn into a four month ordeal.

Post written by Leo Babauta . Follow me on Twitter I am fairly frugal (though not always), but sometimes I take it too far Why live frugally? First, because it allows you to spend less than you earn, and use the difference to pay off debt, save or invest. Or all three. Second, because the less you spend, the less you need to earn. And that means you can choose to work less, or work more but retire early. Or take mini retirements. You have more options with a frugal lifestyle.
