Groovy Java Genetic Programming
Genetic Programming (JGProg) is an open-source pure Java implementation of a strongly-typed Genetic Programming experimentation platform. Three example "worlds" are provided, in which a population evolves and solves the problem. Now that's Groovy. The source code is released under the GNU General Public Licence Go to the Groovy Java main home page
How do I Get Started
About the Project Page
The project page contains links to various elements of the project: forums, mailing lists, news items, downloads, etc.
Public Forums
There are three public forums anyone can post to and read:
  • Open Discussion: Talk about anything, as long as it's related to JGProg or general genetic programming issues, unless the message topic would fit better in one of the other two forums. More for users of JGProg and anyone interested in genetic programming. Help: Ask (and obtain!) help in using JGProg, but not non-JGProg issues in genetic programming, which properly belongs in the Open Discussion forum. For example, a question about the best population size or crossover probability for a particular problem is not a problem in using the JGProg program, since you could use any genetic programming platform. Developers: Talk about further developing JGProg, bugs in JGProg, desired features in JGProg.

Collie Eye Anomaly Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) is a disease that is present at birth and does not get worse through the years of the dog's life. It ranges form inadequate development of the choroid (choroidal hypoplasia) to defects of the choroid, retina, or optic nerve (Coloboma), and complete retinal detachment. All of these parts of the eye are located in the back of the eye and aid the dog in seeing. Vision is normal except when there is retinal hemorrhage or detachment or a very large Coloboma. It is strongly recommended that puppies get tested for this at 6-7 weeks of age. Positive diagnosis can only be made by a Veterinarian Ophthalmologist. The following information on CEA was obtained from CA Sharp.

vWD - von Willebrands Disease
Compiled by Jerrie E. Wolfe jerrie@rose-croft.dk Genetic or hereditary diseases are conditions caused by subtle damage to the DNA, which is then passed from one generation to the next. The damaged gene is inherited according to the rules of genetics, although the pattern of inheritance may not be obvious without detailed scientific study. The majority of genetic disorders afflicting pedigree dogs show a recessive pattern of inheritance. In these conditions, two copies of the damaged gene, one inherited from the sire and the other from the dam, must be present for an individual to suffer from the disease. Carriers, which have only one copy of the damaged gene, will show no symptoms but can transmit the gene to successive generations. On average, when two such carriers are mated, 25% of the offspring will be affected with the disease - but another 50% will be carriers able to pass the disease on! In some instances we are not really dealing with a disease, but a defect; such as malocclusions (poor tooth alignment), coloration, etc., things a dog can live with that do not effect it's health. Though important in maintaining the breed within the standard set by the parent clubs and these should not be dismissed, they should be kept in perspective of the severity of other genetic disease and defects; those that cause sever health problems and even death.

What is a Wolfdog?
A wolfdog is a cross between a gray wolf and a dogwhat some refer to as a wolf hybrid. The term "hybrid", however, is used differently in the various scientific disciplines. For example, in horticulture, hybrids are formed by humans as crosses of different 'types' of plants; the term is used equally for crosses both among and within species. Conversely, in evolutionary biology, the term "hybrid" is used almost exclusively to describe offspring arising from a naturally-occurring cross between two separate and genetically distinct species. So one might recognize the potential for confusion arising from the use of the word "hybrid" when applied to a wolf/dog cross. It is more appropriate to refer to these animals as wolfdogs. In 1993, the Smithsonian Institution and the American Society of Mammalogists reclassified the dog from its separate species designation of Canis familiaris to Canis lupus familiaris . So, now, the Timber wolf (

The Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics
The Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics became an independent graduate department in the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies in July of 1990. The Department was founded two decades earlier and its graduate program was administered as a semi-autonomous program in the Medical Biophysics Department. The Department's major strength is the vast breadth of world-class research programs in areas ranging from microbial genetics all the way to human genetic disease. Our faculty members have made widely recognized contributions in the areas of gene cloning technology, the cloning of Duchenne muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis genes, and have been the recipients of numerous national and international awards. Of the prestigious Howard Hughes awards made to fourteen Canadian scientists in 1997, six were to members of Molecular and Medical Genetics. Graduates from our programs regularly gain post-doctoral positions in prestigious laboratories and staff positions in major universities, research institutes and industry. Research Interests of the Department The research interests of the Department may be grouped into four broad programmatic themes. These are:
