We travelled to Germany last week so enjoyed cooking and eating a meal.
It is quite enjoyable with B1, B2, B3 and myself all cooking together.
I give one dish to each child to cook and we all help where needed.
B1 made the apple strudel for dessert.
B2 made the hot potato salad.
B3 made the carrot salad.
I made the cucumber and dill salad.
And we all pitched in to do the mustard pork chops.
The meal was very yummy.
The sauce on the pork was very rich and we felt very full after the main meal so the kids cleaned up the kitchen, put the dishwasher on and washed the big stuff up before we had dessert. We have been having so much fun visiting all these countries we are off to France this week. Posted by Deanne at 7:18 AM Labels: family cooking

It has evolved as a national cuisine through centuries of social and political change with variations from region to region. The southern regions of Germany, including Bavaria and neighboring Swabia , share many dishes. Furthermore, across the border in Austria one will find many similar dishes. However, ingredients and dishes vary by province. There are many significant regional dishes that have become both national and regional. Many dishes that were once regional, however, have proliferated in different variations across the country into the present day.

    Schupfnudeln
Have fun making this German cooking recipe. Schupfnudeln are typical of the Baden-Wurttemberg state in South-West Germany. My mother-in-law makes this German potato noodle recipe by hand by rolling out the potato dough onto a wooden board and then cutting and forming them into shape. The back and forth movement used to roll out the potato mixture is called Schupfen or Wargeln. It depends on the region as to which word is used. Hence where the German potato noodles get the name Schupfnudeln. Enjoy my German cooking recipe with sauerkraut or sausages. They are easy to make and taste delicious. If you don't know what to make the kids for dinner try this easy German Kid recipe and enjoy some traditional German food. Serve with apple puree or compote. This recipe is a firm favourite in the Kindergarten!
    German Potato Noodle Recipe
1kg potatoes, cooked the day before
    2-3 eggs
a pinch of salt and nutmeg
    100g flour
    4 litres of boiling saltwater
    lard for frying
Peel the potatoes and finely grate them. Add the egg, salt, nutmeg and just enough flour until the mixture holds together (this depends on the sort of potato). Knead the mixture thoroughly, form a roll and cut into slices.
