They feed on plants, often causing damages to garden plants and agricultural crops. Grasshoppers are a group of insects that are closely related to, but distinct from, crickets and katydids. Like crickets, grasshoppers have long, powerful hind legs that it uses for jumping. It can jump over twenty times the length of its own body. The grasshopper sometimes rubs one of its back legs against a wing to make a sound known as stridulation. The sound is similar to a cricket's chirp. Grasshoppers have wings in their adult stage and are capable of traveling quickly over large distances. The ability to fly and its herbaceous diet of grasses and grain crops makes the grasshopper a serious agricultural pest. Under the right conditions, grasshopper populations can explode in size. The short-horned grasshopper actually undergoes a behavioral change as its population grows. The insects become agitated, massing in great numbers, eventually changing into a single migrating swarm known as locusts.

However, thanks to a consortium of former players from the early nineties, the club was resurrected for the beginning of the 2004-05 season and wasted no time in restoring the club's original reputation for fair play and reasonably attractive football, played in a good spirit and with a sense of camaraderie - more in the style of a rugby club than bickering, prima donna footballers. Following a successful first season the club quickly grew even further and, with the advent of the 2005-06 season, a second side was created. Following a ruling that both teams were to compete against each other in the same division of the Uxella League the decision was taken to run Grasshoppers '04 as a predominantly youth-oriented side that would lay the foundations for the future success of the club while Grasshoppers '05 would be firmly focused on the present, consisting of a strong squad of experienced Sunday League performers. The 2006-07 season then brought another league rule change which saw the Hoppers have their rapidly maturing '04 youth team promoted to the First Division as the emphasis changed from two separate sides to the more traditional first and reserves arrangement. The two sides operated for a couple of years before the strains of raising two starting elevens on the same day told and the club downsized once again to one team operating in the second division of the Bridgwater Sunday League from season 2008-09.
