What is migraine?
Migraine is a medical condition. Most people who suffer from migraines get headaches that can be quite severe. A migraine headache is usually an intense, throbbing pain on one, or sometimes, both sides of the head. Most people with migraine headache feel the pain in the temples or behind one eye or ear, although any part of the head can be involved. Besides pain, migraine also can cause nausea and vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. Some people also may see spots or flashing lights or have a temporary loss of vision. Migraine can occur any time of the day, though it often starts in the morning. The pain can last a few hours or up to one or two days. Some people get migraines once or twice a week. Others, only once or twice a year. Most of the time, migraines are not a threat to your overall health. But migraine attacks can interfere with your day-to-day life.
  • Most often, migraine affects people between the ages of 15 and 55.

    What is Migraine Headache?
Migraine headache has been described as an episodic, paroxysmal headache, usually but not necessarily affecting one side of the head; which may or may not be associated with giddiness, nausea, vomiting or visual impairment. The painful episode of migraine is usually intense and lasting for half an hour to over a couple of days.

    Cause
The exact cause often remains unknown. It has been proved that migraine is a vascular disorder. Due to some triggering factors, varying from person to person, there is some kind of vasoconstriction and vasodilatation of the branches of the carotid artery (the major neck blood vessel) which leads to typical throbbing and congestive attack of headache. While the exact causation in unknown, it has been observed in practice that migraine is often psychosomatic in origin. There is a migraine personality and it has been observed in a study of a series of migraine patients that there is also a common thread in the migraine personality type.

2004: Entering Our Eighth Year My New Year's Message to the BAM Community There are some great surprises in store that are very exciting, and some true landmark events and measures of progress that I will be absolutely thrilled to announce to you all! We've come such a long way since I started one small page back in 1997back when there was absolutely nothing out there for those who suffered from this debilitating neurological disease, back there when those who suffered were isolated and spread out around the globe, each thinking they were truly alone. But there is so much more work to be done, so many more people to reach around the world who are scared, confused, and feeling like nobody else in the world understands how they suffer or how they feel. Many people still have no diagnosis, no neurologist, no treatment, no support network, no confidants, nobody who understands. Many are left without jobs, afraid they cannot care for their children or drive, left without income or insurance.

90. Migraine Chapter, Ophthalmoplegic ,  B.Todd Troost
Discusses guidelines for clinical diagnosis of ophthalmoplegic migraine.
http://imigraine.net/migraine/ophthalmoplegic.html
I discussed the nosologic position of this entity in a course at the American Academy of Neurology Meetings in Philadelphia on May 4, 2001. It is clear now that most of the cases of acute third nerve palsy and headache formerly referred to as "ophthalmoplegic migraine" show MRI enhancement of the nerve. This is documented in papers by Wong and Wong in 1197 in Pediatric Neurology and by Mark et al. in the American Journal of Neuroradiology in November 1998. It appears now that this entity is most like Bell's palsy in that it is an isolated "idiopathic" probably post-viral inflammation of a cranial nerve, the III. My earlier discussions of this entity are presented below. I
1. A history of typical migraine headache, ie, a severe throbbing headache usually unilateral, but occasionally bilateral or alternating. It is typically of the crescendo type and may last several hours or days.
2. Ophthalmoplegia including one or more nerves and possibly alternating sides with attacks. Extraocular muscle paralysis may occur with the first attack of headache or, rarely, precede it. However, the paralysis usually appears subsequent to an established migraine pattern.
3. Exclusion of other causes by arteriography, surgical exploration or autopsy.

Clinical Research Uncovers Missing Links
in Resolving Migraine Headaches
and Chronic Pain
by Gerald H. Smith, D.D.S. An integrated chiropractic/dental approach has uncovered a major link in curing chronic pain. By merging craniosacral concepts of chiropractic with functional dental orthopedics, a more comprehensive system emerges which has the ability to orchestrate structural balance of the entire human frame. By applying the integrated system, chiropractors and dentists can now focus their treatments on correcting the underlying structural imbalances which are a major source for pain.
, upper jaw, are one major direct cause for dural tensions and thus chronic pain which does not respond to conventional drug therapy.

Dental malocclusions are more prevalent than ever before owing their high incidence to the high consumption of a refined food diet (changes verified by Dr. Weston Price in his classic book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration), cranial distortions from the birthing process, and iatrogenic dental procedures (improperly aligned denture teeth, crown and bridgework, removable partial dentures, and dental orthopedics and orthodontics). To help overcome this structural disharmony, dentistry now has several diagnostic techniques to guide the practitioner during treatment: Accu-Liner instrument, Dental Orthogonal radiographic Analysis and Four Cranial indicators.
