Major and Contributing Risk Factors Eat As If Your Life Depended On It Conclusion ... References
You are what you eat . If you consume risk-increasing foods and beverages, your overall risk of cardiovascular disease increases. Risk-increasing consumption patterns include "junk" food (high in sugar and saturated fat), alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, pollutants, carcinogens, and free-radical -forming substances and processes (ultraviolet rays from the sun, stress, etc.). HDL cholesterol, or "good" cholesterol, appears to scour the walls of blood vessels, cleaning out excess cholesterol. It then carries that excess cholesterol which otherwise might have been used to make the "plaques" that cause coronary artery disease back to the liver for processing. So when we measure a person's HDL cholesterol level, we seem to be measuring how vigorously his or her blood vessels are being "scrubbed" free of cholesterol. Blood Pressure Drug List

He was 7 weeks premature, but otherwise healthy....or so we thought until September 20. It was then that we discovered Jake had a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). What is TOF? Our world crumbled that day. We didn't know why this had happened or if Jake would even survive. We vowed that we would do whatever we had to do in order for Jake to live a normal life.

Again, the ER said there was nothing they could do. I refused to leave and was admitted for observation. Later, the doctor on duty saw my EKG and asked, "Where's the 34-year-old who had the massive heart attack?" I had emergency surgery. But the damage was done; only part of my heart muscle functions.
