Herb Gardening
A trip to the local supermarket normally offers a selection if fresh herbs for sale. These herbs can be grown in your garden with really little effort. Herb Gardening is fun, doesn't use up much space in the garden and if you have children, it's a great way to introduce them to gardening. Herbs can be grown from either cuttings or seeds. Heavy growing herbs can be divided and made into new seperate plants. However you decide to grow your herbs, and whichever format that you decide to use, herb gardening adds fun into the garden and also provides loads of textures and flavours for soups, garnish and many other uses in the kitchen. Herbs come in various guises, they can be annuals, biennials or perennials. Basil, Coriander and Dill are examples of annuals that bloom for one season only and then die. Caraway and parsley are biennials that live for only two seasons but produce a bloom in the second season only. Perennials like fennel, mint, chives and tarragon die backover winter and then, once the plant is established, blossom each season. Herbs need to be planted in a good sizes but not overlarge area. A 20 by 4 foot garden space in adequate for a lovely sizes herb garden. In your herb garden, you can split the area into smaller separate plots for each type of herb. For an area this size, I would recommend a mini plot that is approximately 12 by 18 inchs. With the many herbs that are being used, colorful and frequently used herbs can be planted around the edges of your herb plot. Good examples of herbs for the edging to give plenty of colour are Parsley and Purple Basil.

Container Herb Gardening
Dear Friend, My name is Mary E. Eule and I’ve been an herbalist for many years. For the first several years, I grew my herbs using the good old trial-and-error method. After more than one frustrating season, I finally got smart and decided to conduct some independent research into the methods that other herb gardeners used to grow stronger, happier and more productive plants. I selected the best-of-the-best tips and advice and created my own system for growing herbs quickly, joyfully and easily anywhere . This is the very same method that I’ve outline in the e-book offered on this website. I believe that I have successfully condensed mounds of information into a truly effective and easy-to-understand guide that takes the guesswork out of growing nature’s hardest working plants, and hope you’ll agree. Like most of you, I am a busy person who often feels overwhelmed with the numbers of responsibilities on my plate.  My life as a professional writer and marketer, business consultant, wife, parent (and just recently, grandparent – Yay!)), frequent traveler, and a person with multiple and varied hobbies, is often quite hectic.  There are times when I’ve been so busy and so stressed that – and I’m ashamed to admit this – fast food meals were part of our lives several times a week!  And while I’m all for an occasional Big Mac, poor eating habits take their toll.  It’s simply not a viable – or healthy – solution.

Stone-Otis House The Stone-Otis House, ca. 1830, was built by Sarah and Dennis Stone . This house represents one of the finest old homes in what was the newly formed town of Orange. Built on the east side of the Town Green, this modified Greek Revival stands as a tribute to the fine workmanship of the time. The home was sold to Phoebe and Charles Otis in 1887 and was held in the family until 1965 when it was sold to the Town of Orange. The Historical Society has restored the home. There are four rooms on the first floor: a keeping room, a parlor, a bedroom and a general store. The original general store, run by Dennis Stone, was the second of its kind in the town. The second floor has been restored to include a bed chamber, a nursery, and a children's room; it also houses a 19th century clothing display. The third floor is "Grandma's Attic" and displays a collection of items that would be seen in an attic as the families grew and saved their belongings and treasured memories. An extensive herb garden planted in the backyard displays a variety of herbs that were grown in the 19th century for medicinal, culinary and household purposes. Herb Gardening
Herb gardening involves designing and maintaining a garden patch specifically for the cultivation of herbs that are popular cooking or medicine components. The concept has developed from the descriptions of the gardens of the ancient classical worlds. The history of the herb garden:
Garden patches are usually dedicated for growing different types of vegetables, flowers, fruits and medicines. In the medieval world, there were a number of monks and nuns who acquired special medical knowledge. They indulged in the growth of the necessary herbs in specialist gardens or herb gardens to ensure the easy availability of the medicine components. The typical herbs grown include angelica, rosemary, sage, thyme, bay, dill amd oregano. The advance of medical and botanical sciences during the renaissance witnessed the monastic herb gardens developing into a major investment. Herb gardens experienced a revival with the initiatives of a number of dedicated historians and horticulturists.
Modern herb gardens:
The modern herb gardens are sometimes purely functional and yet at times, just ornamental! Horticulturists now use the cultivation of herbs as part of a design in the containing boxes and raised garden beds. Today, the development and popularity of alternate medication are encouraging people to grow the herbs themselves, instead of buying them in dried variations from the market, especially if they are imported. The herb garden enables the owner to use fresh herbs, like in the treatment of bronchitis and acne. Herbs are not at all troublesome to grow and the overlap between herbs that thrive in outdoor gardens versus those that thrive inside is taken care of in the presence of proper care.
