Herpes simplex
Herpes simplex is a common viral infection that presents with localised blistering. It affects most people on one or more occasions during their lives. There are two main types of herpes simplex virus (HSV), although there is considerable overlap.
  • Type 1, which is mainly associated with facial infections (cold sores or fever blisters) Type 2, which is mainly genital ( genital herpes
First or primary attacks of Type 1 infections occur mainly in infants and young children, which are usually mild or subclinical. In crowded, underdeveloped areas of the world up to 100% of children have been infected by the age of 5. In higher socioeconomic groups the incidence is lower, for example less than half of university entrants in Britain have been infected. Type 2 infections occur mainly after puberty, often transmitted sexually. The initial infection more commonly causes symptoms.

Nederst på siden om herpes genitalis
Hvad er herpes
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) inddeles i to typer, type 1 (HSV-1) og type 2 (HSV-2).

Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). A sexually transmitted disease is a disease that you get by having sex with someone who already has the disease. Genital herpes is a viral infection caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) . Once you are infected with herpes, the virus stays in your body for life. You can give herpes to another person if you have sex when your herpes virus is active. Herpes simplex virus remains in certain nerve cells of the body forever, and can produce symptoms off and on in some infected people. Herpes is spread through direct contact. So, a genital herpes infection will stay in the area it originated unless transferred elsewhere via direct contact or skin-to-skin transference. Genital herpes won't just show up on its own somewhere else on the body. Because genital herpes is spread through direct contact, it is important to avoid contact with infected areas. If a genital herpes infection is not localized, further complications may occur. For instance, a herpes infection in the eyes can lead to severe complications, including blindness. Herpes is equally common in males and females.

Shingles (Herpes Zoster)
Shingles (otherwise known as Herpes Zoster) is a painful, blistering rash caused by the chickenpox (varicella) virus, which affects only a limited area of skin, and makes you feel surprisingly tired, run down, and even depressed.
Symptoms
You may feel slightly unwell, and develop a localised area of pain and tenderness a few days or sometimes up to two weeks before the rash appears. The rash starts off as red spots, which quickly turn into blisters. They always affect only one side of the body (left or right) and never cross the midline. This is because they come out on the area of skin which is supplied by one particular nerve. The rash may affect any part of the body, including head and limbs. It may thus appear as a band around one side of the chest or abdomen, or down an arm or leg. It may affect the head, and when it affects the upper cheek or the side of the forehead it may also affect the eye. You should certainly see your doctor if you have shingles affecting the side of the head, and especially if it seems to affect the tip of your nose or the eye itself. It is usually a very painful rash, and typically people can't bear clothes touching the affected area.

  • Herpes simplex virus can cause symptoms on the mouth (oral herpes) or genitals (genital herpes).
About 50 to 80 percent of American adults have oral herpes, which is commonly called cold sores or fever blisters.
Herpes is most easily spread from genital-to-genital or oral-to-genital contact during an active outbreak or during prodrome the few days just before an outbreak.
Oral and genital herpes can be uncomfortable, but they are generally not dangerous infections in healthy adults.
Herpes does not affect the immune system. It is rare for adults to have any health problems from genital herpes. However, having genital herpes makes it easier to acquire and/or transmit HIV, a virus that can cause AIDS. There are several days throughout the year when herpes can be spread even when no symptoms are present (called asymptomatic reactivation or asymptomatic shedding). The surest way to prevent the spread of genital herpes is to avoid sexual contact during an active outbreak and to use condoms for sexual contact between outbreaks. Suppressive (daily) antiviral therapy with valacyclovir has also been proven to reduce the risk of transmission to a partner.

It is a crime that when treating health related disease with natural plant extracts, many aromatherapists are using Jasmine absolute, orange blossom absolute, tuberose absolute, rose absolute etc. - even linden absolute - and it is impossible to put the clock back now. These are not "real" and not providing proper value to the unsuspecting patient. Whilst I can do a good impression of King Canute holding back the waves it is not realistic to do so, as these materials have fabulous sensory and probably aromatherapeutic properties. It is of course possible to get these products as oil, for example jasmine oil - but this is distilled from jasmine absolute, just as Moroccan rose oil is distilled from rose absolute.
