    Hindi Language
Hindi is the second most spoken language in the world, after Chinese. About 500 million people speak Hindi, in India and abroad, and the total number of people who can understand the language may be 800 million.
    History of the language
Hindi originates from a language called by linguists Indo-European parent language, which is thought to have been spoken in Central Asia around 5, 0000 BC. Also English belongs to this ancestral language, this is why many words in Hindi are similar to they English equivalent and in English we find many words of Hindi origin (cot, loot). Apart from this small similarity to English, the majority of Hindi vocabulary comes from the Classical Sanskrit. What is more, when India still was a united State, Hindi was virtually identical to spoken Urdu. The two languages separated when India was divided into India and Pakistan. The standardisation of Hindi begun when the Nation was a colony of Britain and it was completed after the independence thanks to a set of rules (concerning, for instance, grammar and spelling) established by the Government. Finally, Hindi was declared official language of India in 1965.
    Dialects of Hindi
Hindi is only one of the 18 officially recognised Indian languages and as it is for the other languages, also Hindi includes many dialects . Hindi counts with around ten variations, among which we find the formal Khariboli, used in literature, and the more colourful Bambayina, spoken in the streets of Bombay and used in Indian films to identify broody characters.

Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language with about 487 million speakers. It is one of the official languages of India and is the main language used in the northern states of Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar, and is spoken in much of north and central India alongside other languages such as Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi or Bengali. In other parts of India, as well as in Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan, Hindi is understood. In Fiji people of Indian origin speak Hindi, and in some areas the Fijian people also speak it. Hindi is closely related to Urdu , the main language of Pakistan, which is written with the Arabic script, and linguists consider Standard Hindi and Standard Urdu to be different formal registers both derived from the Khari Boli dialect, which is also known as Hindustani. Apart from the difference in writing systems, the other main difference between Hindi and Urdu is that Hindi contains more vocabulary from Sanskrit, while Urdu contains more vocabulary from Persian. At an informal spoken level there are few significant differences between Urdu and Hindi and they could be considered varieties a single language. Hindi first started to be used in writing during the 4th century AD. It was originally written with the

By Abdullah Al Araby - with thanks.
Islam is more than a religion; it is a comprehensive way of life. The Quran, Mohammed, his immediate followers, and generations of theologians prescribed numerous regulations governing every aspect of the Muslim social, political, economic, and religious life.
In this article we will examine only a few of these Islamic regulations, based on the most reliable source of all Islamic teachings, the Quran. The reader must determine whether it is acceptable to live under such teachings.
    WOMEN'S RIGHTS
Are women equal to men according to Islam?
Islam teaches that women are inferior to men.
"...And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable; but men have a degree over them..." Surah 2:228
In what areas are women unequal to men in Islam?
Islam teaches that women are less than equal to men in at least two major areas:
First, in inheritance: A woman's share is half that of a man. "To the male a portion equal to that of two females..." Surah 4:11

Modern Standard Hindi is a lingua franca (as well as native language) of millions of people in North India and the official language of the Indian Union. It is effectively a continuation of Hindustani, which developed from Khari Boli, the speech of certain classes and districts in Delhi affiliated with the Mughal Urdu . Hindustani was codified by the British at Fort William College in Calcutta (now Kolkata). There Hindu intellectuals promoted a Sanskritized form of Hindustani ( see Sanskrit language ) written in the Devanagari script ( see Indic writing systems ) in the late 18th and early 19th centuries; it became the progenitor of modern literary Hindi as used by Hindu authors. During the Indian independence movement, Hindustani was regarded as a national unifying factor, but after the partition in 1947 this attitude changed, and the name has practically dropped from use in favour of either Hindi or Urdu. Linguists, particularly George Abraham Grierson , have also used the term Hindi to refer collectively to all the dialects and regional literary languages of the northern Indian plain. Hindi has drastically simplified the complex grammar of Old Indo-Aryan while preserving certain phonetic features.

    Hindi Language
Hindi, an Indo-European language spoken mainly in northern and central India, is the primary official language of the Union government of India. It is part of a dialect continuum of the Indic family, bounded on the northwest and west by Punjabi, Sindhi, Urdu, and Gujarati; on the south by Marathi; on the southeast by Oriya; on the east by Bengali; and on the north by Nepali. Hindi also refers to a standardized register of Hindustani termed khari boli, that emerged as the standard dialect of Hindi. The grammatical description in this article concerns this standard Hindi. Hindi is often contrasted with Urdu, another standardized form of Hindustani that is the official language of Pakistan and also an official language in some parts of India. The primary differences between the two are that Standard Hindi is written in Devanagari and draws its vocabulary with words from Sanskrit, while Urdu is written in Nastaliq script, a variant of the Perso-Arabic script, and draws heavily on Persian and Arabic vocabulary. The term "Urdu" also includes dialects of Hindustani other than the standardized languages. Other than these, linguists consider Hindi and Urdu to be the same language.

    About the Hindi Language,
    Urdu and Hindustani...
OK, I have to admit up front that am a geek about the Hindi language, and language learning in general. I have a shelf full of grammars and dictionaries in various languages, I did German at School and New Testament Greek at Theological College. I also have a Masters degree in Applied Linguistics, in which I studied all about how people learn language, a bit about the different language families, how our language influences thought and much more. I find it completely fascinating to see how language, culture and religion intertwine and that’s one of the things which makes the travel experience so compelling for me, most especially India. I mean, what does it say about a language that the word for tomorrow and the word for yesterday are the same? And the word for the day after tomorrow is the same as the word for the day before yesterday?
Well, it goes together with a culture and religion which understands time as relating to circles and cycles, perhaps spirals (think cycles of birth and death—even depicted on the Indian flag) rather than time as a linear progression from the past to the future… very interesting. Ok, back to the topic, before I get carried away! India has many official languages (as every state can appoint as official whichever languages it wantshow cool is that?), but Hindi and English are the two which are official languages for the whole country and are used in government and administrative documents.
