[Note:The following is part two of Matt Barton's in-depth series on the history of computer role-playing games. We highly recommend referring to Part One: The Early Years before reading this article!] Welcome back, brave adventurer, to the second part of my history of our favorite genre of computer gamethe Computer Role-Playing Game (the CRPG). Last time , we explored the CRPG's murky precursors, which included tabletop war and sports games like Tactics and Strat-O-Matic. Of course, I also discussed the CRPG's most direct ancestor, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson's game, which itself derived mostly from their earlier fantasy-based strategy game called Chainmail . Since so much of consists of mathematics, programmers realized at once that a considerable bulk of the game was well suited for play on a computer. The first CRPGs appeared on mainframes like the PDP-10 and a special educational platform called PLATO By the early 1980s, these graphically simplistic but technically masterful games had been adapted or ported to almost every home computer on the market

We are very glad to connect with Internet and send a greeting message now. Our school was founded in 1941, when there were about 160 students. But now there are about 1500 students(from 10th grade to 12th grade) and 120 teachers and staff. It is coeducational and we have 3 kinds of courses, which are a commercial course, a computer course and a general course. The students of the commercial course study mainly subjects like soroban (abacus), bookkeeping, typing, basic knowledge of business besides Japanese, English, math, science and so on. The students of the computer course study mainly the advanced knowledge and skill on the computer in addition to the above subjects. In the general course, they study Japanese, math, English, science and social studies. Our school started to send e-mails by Venus in 1991. We have communicated with some schools in England, Scotland and Australia.

      Welcome to Philosophy
Philosophy will be enjoyed by anyone who is fascinated by ideas, who likes to think and to explore, who is curious, and who wants to know where in the great marketplace of the world's ideas truth might be reasonably found. It is not just an academic subject, but addresses the puzzles that arise in everyone's life. Its aim is to enable you to think rationally, lucidly, independently and critically, to discuss intelligently, and to argue cogently.
      No experience required!
Philosophy offers an array of courses in its 'absolute beginners' series - courses with NO special background required . Each course provides an enjoyable entrée into the fascinating world of philosophical thinking.
      Studying Philosophy
Here are a few typical philosophical questions:
      • Was the universe created by God or is it a wholly natural system? Is there life after death? Can science tell us everything there is to know about the world?

    HUMAN COMPUTING
"Can you do addition?" the White queen asked. "What's one and one and one and one and one and one and one and one and one and one?" - Lewis Carroll, Alice Through the Looking-Glass.
T he word "computer" is often thought to have been coined with the advent of the first electronic computer in 1946. Actually, according to Webster's dictionary, the earliest recorded use of "computer" came exactly 300 years earlier, in 1646. From the 17th century until the turn of the 20th century, the term was used to describe people whose jobs involved calculating. In his 1834 book Memoirs of John Napier of Merchiston , Mark Napier wrote:"Many a man passes for a great mathematician because he is a huge computer. Hutton and Maseres were great calculators rather than great mathematicians. When their pages were full of figures and symbols, they were happy. [John] Napier alone, of all philosophers in all ages, made it the grand object of his life to obtain the power of calculation without its prolixity."
The logarithms of numbers from one to 10.
