Hong Kong Geography
The Hong Kong geography features that it shares boundary with South China Sea and China. It is located in East Asia and falls on the geographical coordinates of 22 15 North and 114 10 East. The total area covered by Hong Kong is 1,092 sq km out of which the land area is 1,042 sq km and the water bodies cover 50 sq km.
The geography of Hong Kong shows that it has a long coastline of 733 kilometers. There are more than 200 islands in the place. Sometimes, it has to undergo the threats of typhoons. Though Hong Kong is located on volcanic plains, yet no major earthquakes have so far been recorded. The lowest point of Hong Kong is the South China Sea and the highest point is the Tai Mo Shan. The northern side has got lowlands.
The Hong Kong geography also features that it lies south of the Tropic of Cancer. Hong Kong enjoys a cool and humid climate in winter, hot and rainy weather from spring to summer months and a sub-tropical monsoon season. As per the report of 2001, the total cultivable land in Hong Kong accounts for 5.05%. The topography of Hong Kong shows various hills and mountains with their locations and heights.
According to the Hong Kong ecology, the place is rich in mangroves especially along the Deep Bay. A good variety of birds and butterflies can also be located here.

Hong Kong has the fourth highest population density in the world in terms of special regions/countries (Macau, Monaco and Singapore are first, second and third respectively). The population of Hong Kong is just over 7,000,000 people with a total land area of 1,104 square kilometers; this puts its population density at 6,480 persons per km (Toronto's is 3,972 persons per km

    • Hong Kong Overview Hong Kong Geography Hong Kong has gained its reputation for being one of the highest, longest and the most populated island in the Chinese territory. It is even identified as the greenest city in Asia. As far as the Hong Kong geography goes the place is comprised of Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Kowloon Peninsula connects the New Territories from the northern end while the New Territories stretches towards the Chinese territory along the Sham Chun River. Among the prevalent 262 islands Lantau stands as one of the largest among them positioned in South China Sea. Hong Kong geography reveals that it is nestled towards the eastern end of Macau (within 37 miles) lying reverse to Pearl River Delta. It is engulfed by the city of Shenzhen towards its northern stretches within Guangdong Province. Tai Mo Shan is notably the highest point reaching to an elevation of 3,142 ft. Hong Kong stretches to a land area of about 1,095 sq. km. The Hong Kong Island is covered to 80 sq. km while the Kowloon peninsular is set along approximately to about 47 sq. km and the New Territories is known to cover 794 sq. km.
