Posted by ingypeters z5-toronto ( My Page ) on Fri, Mar 26, 10 at 21:04 Hi,
I just bought some potted hydrangeas from Costco (I'm in the Toronto area) and wanted to know how to harden these to leave them outside - still potted. They were inside the store, so I'm assuming they have to be hardened. Is there a minimum temperature (approx) that I need to wait for? Thanks in advance! Follow-Up Postings:

Hi, I would wait untill May 24 weekend and plant the hydrangeas outside then, this is usually our time when frost is over. They won't rebloom this year however with the proper maintenance they will bloom the following year

Gardening help please! Wisteria/Clematis/Hydrangeas
We've just planted 4 clematises under our balcony and are training it to grow onto wooden lattice. I would like to put tiger lilies a few feet out in front of this, but will the clematis overtake them anyway?
Also, just bought 2 wisterias (not the crazy kind, it's Amesthyst Falls) and want to plant them on the corner of our wooden fence line, training them to each go down opposite sides of the fence (90-degree angle). I know the wisteria will take lots of pruning after first bloom, but is this a bad idea altogether? Should they be planted farther apart and trained to eventually meet up?
And last, how will 2 hydrangea bushes do with an elephant ear plant in the middle of them? All are spaced 2-3 feet apart.
We live in Georgia, and have followed directions when planting as far as sun/shade requirements. I'm mainly wondering about the location and combinations here. Any and all advice is welcome, even if you only know about part of it. Thanks in advance for any answers!!

Posted by 5a ON ( My Page ) on Tue, May 2, 06 at 6:41 I just spent last weekend removing most of the plants from my perennial bed, amending the soil, and replanting (some) plants. I had a large number of daylillies and rudbeckia...very overgrown. I saved what I wanted, and donated the rest to friends. I decided to give Hydrangea's a try. The garden is on the east side of a wooden fence, and gets afternoon shade. I love Hydrangeas, but I don't know much about them, other than the tag said part shade. I planted Niko Blue, Pee Gee, and Endless Summer. Questions:
When to prune, and what to prune - read something about blooming on "old" wood?
Fertilizing?
Any bug problems? What to look for? Thanks for any suggestions. Follow-Up Postings:
