Icelandic Food
There is a wide range of high quality restaurants in Iceland, serving specialities including freshly caught seafood, meat from naturally reared animals and prize game from the unspoilt countryside.
Iceland offers a fine variety of all kinds of foods produced locally. The quality is excellent, in part because of a very clean environment. Perhaps the best is lamb meat, mostly because the sheep range freely in the mountains. Iceland has strict regulations relating to meat production and the use of hormones is strictly forbidden.
There is a wide range cheeses and other dairy products made in Iceland. There are over 80 types of cheese made, some of which have won international awards. Skyr (which is something between yogurt and the German "quark") and mysa (whey) are specialities that have been made in farms through the centuries in Iceland.
Icelandic fish, caught in the unpolluted waters of the North Atlantic, has established a reputation for its superb quality and delicious taste world-wide. Fish is the mainstay of the Icelandic diet, and fresh fish can be had all the year round. Icelanders eat mostly haddock, cod, plaice, halibut, herring and shrimp.
Poultry farming is considerable in Iceland. The most common types of bird reared are chicken, duck and turkey. Certain species of wild birds are hunted, including geese.

A glass of fresh cold milk is a common accompaniment to almost every meal, and soups made with milk and dried pureed fruits are often enjoyed. But the favorite dish of all and an Icelandic staple is skyr . It is made from pasteurized skim milk fermented with rennin. The resulting curd is eaten with a sprinkling of sugar both as a snack and a dessert. The slightly soured whey is used to preserve many types of meats and fish. A brownish, smooth-spreading cheese called Mysostur is eaten as a spread on bread much as peanut butter is used in North America. Other cheeses are sliced and enjoyed in open-face sandwiches or as part of the cold buffet. Cream is used in cookery and whipped cream is a part of many cakes and desserts.
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Wild berries and rhubarb grown locally and imported dried fruits such as raisins, prunes, and apricots are used. These may be made into preserves with sugar, sugared fruit soups (with added cream or milk), or dessert puddings that are sweetened with sugar and thickened with potato flour. Fresh fruits are scarce.
Use of imported and canned vegetables is increasing, but potatoes are the staple vegetable and are served daily often at more than one meal. Salads are all but unknown.

Iceland Culture
Iceland's Culture is influenced both by its geography as well by its history. Iceland's position on the planet is much responsible for the development of its people and they are proud and strong individuals. The History and Culture of Iceland dates back to the 9thand 10th century when the Norsemen mainly came from Norway and some parts of Scandinavia. The Celtic influence is quite prominent in Icelanders because some migrated from the British Isles. Iceland has a plethora of culture and it’s quite visible during its annual events and local shows.
Iceland's Culture has a huge dimension that ranges from Paintings, Literature, Manuscript illuminations, Woodcarvings to Folk music. Reykjavik boosts of its opera house, ballet company and symphony orchestra where various popular national and International events take place regularly and religiously.
The History and Culture of Iceland is praiseworthy because the Icelanders are very hard working and they are mostly literate. Value is given to education and most of the majority of Icelanders have dual job to support their luxurious lifestyles. Women are very independent and 90% of Icelanders women have job outside the home. Icelanders really work hard and can maintain the lavish lifestyle. Icelanders generally respond slowly to date and they do not take it personally. The people of Iceland are the direct descendant’s of Viking's and they are proud of it and are very sentimental about their values and cultures.

CULTURE Visitors to Iceland are always surprised by the tremendous vitality of its cultural life. Lovers of the arts and culture are in for a real treat in Reykjavik. Strong Icelandic tradition and international culture thrive side by side to weave a rich tapestry of delights and experiences. On the cultural front there is the choice of symphony orchestra, opera, theaters (there's no language barrier for the frequent musicals), and a colorful variety of other musical events. Alongside home artists, growing numbers of celebrated international performers from all genres are eager to include "cool but hot" Iceland in their tour programs these days. And for a little daytime cultural input, a fine national and international mix is also found at the many visual art museums and galleries. Visual Art
Reykjavik and the surrounding area are home to a vast number of art galleries of every size, shape and description. Some are architectural delights, some intimate and cozy; some of them even double as cafes or movie-theater lobbies. And none of them ever stands empty. In fact the output of fine arts and crafts in Iceland far surpasses what the existing galleries and showrooms can handle.
Reykjavik Art Museum comprises the Asmundur Sveinsson Sculpture Museum, the Kjarval Collection, the Erro Collection, the Architectural Museum and the Reykjavik Art Collection. The Museum is located in three different places in Reykjavik, each with its own characteristics.

It is an island nation in the north Atlantic Ocean with many beautiful features. Inland you'll find many geysers, hot springs, glaciers, and rural areas. Along the coasts are scores of fishing villages. Iceland's capital, Reykjavik, is on the southwestern coast. Although more than half of the country lives in Reykjavik, many Icelanders live and work in small towns or rural areas. These rural areas produced one of Iceland's most famous writers. Halldor Laxness was born in Reykjavik in 1902. At the age of three, his parents moved into the country. This would affect Halldor for the rest of his life. Many of his writings were centered on the idea of the rural worker. In fact, many of his political and religious beliefs came from this, too.

The Sagas, almost all written between 1180-1300 A.D., remain Iceland's best-known literary accomplishment, and they have no surviving counterpart anywhere in the Nordic world. Based on Norwegian and Icelandic histories and genealogies, the Sagas present views of Nordic life and times up to 1100 A.D. The Saga writers sought to record their heroes' great achievements and to glorify the virtues of courage, pride, and honor, focusing in the later Sagas on early Icelandic settlers. The best-known Icelandic writer of the 20th century is the Nobel Prize winner Halldor Kiljan Laxness. The literacy rate is 99.9%, and literature and poetry are a legendary passion with the population. Per capita publication of books and magazines is the highest in the world. Kristjan Johannsson is most likely Iceland's most famous opera singer, while pop singer Bjork is likely its best-known artist internationally together with the progressive rock band Sigur Ros.
