LZFMA Mission Statement
We hope to provide for our students, both children and adults, challenging and stimulating well-rounded martial arts training that increases self-esteem, confidence, physical fitness, self-awareness, and the ability to defend oneself from others. The form of martial art taught by Lake Zurich Family Martial Arts benefits students through four primary ways: physical fitness, Tae Kwon Do basics, forms, and self-defense.
  • Through the various martial arts exercises and drills, physical fitness is stressed and developed in many ways. Cardiovascular fitness is developed through high-intensity aerobic exercises, muscular strength is promoted through exercises such as push-ups, crunches, and martial arts techniques such as punches and kicks, and overall endurance is improved through strenuous 45 to 90 minute classes. The basic punching and kicking techniques of Tae Kwon Do encourage basic body awareness, coordination, balance, and eye-hand and eye-foot coordination. Through the learning and practice of empty-hand forms (sequences of techniques learned for each rank), the student learns discipline, self-control, body awareness, and memory.

Welcome to INTC
The Illinois New Teacher Collaborative (INTC) is at the forefront of providing statewide leadership for promoting new teacher induction and mentoring programs and supplying resources for those who support new teachers. Recognizing the need for a central source to consolidate and coordinate induction and mentoring efforts, INTC was created in 2004 by a diverse statewide group of educational stakeholders. Information and resources pertaining to attracting and retaining new teachers and enhancing their teaching are now available to schools and communities through the central source provided by INTC. INTC Online offers resources for preservice teachers, new teaching professionals, teacher mentors, K-12 school administrators, service providers, and higher education professionals. Any Illinois educator is welcome to join INTC. To find out more, or to become a member, contact INTC by e-mail intc@illinois.edu

6. Pioneer Sholes School
History and picture gallery of this circa 1872 Illinois school which has been relocated and renovated and now serves as a museum.
http://www.pioneersholesschool.org/
Welcome to Pioneer Sholes School Information for Teachers Information for Visitors Sholes School is a typical one-room country school used today as a living museum for students and their teachers. A full curriculum, circa 1900, is available for classes who wish to reenact a day at Pioneer Sholes School. Sholes School is currently located at the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve on Dean Street in St. Charles Township, Illinois. The school building originally stood on the David Sholes farm in Burlington Township on Burlington Road near Plato Road. According to an old map of Kane County, the first school at that site was built before 1860. The current Sholes School building dates back to at least 1872, as a picture from the Elgin Historical Society shows, but it may be older. Later on, the Sholes land was sold to Louis Schairer. Schairer was very active in school affairs in the early 1900’s. With the school being near to the Schairer residence, teachers sometimes boarded there and occasionally students and teachers warmed themselves in the house on cold days when the heating system in the school failed. At the time, the school was sometimes called the Schairer school. Sholes School was closed in 1946-47 when Kane County started a school consolidation program. In all, the County closed approximately 135 small schools and sent the students to the larger town schools. Many of the old school buildings were converted to other usesfrom chicken coops to personal residences.
