India is the seventh largest country in the world. It is situated in south-east Asia and is approximately 3.3 million square kilometres. It has a large coastline, which stretches for just over 7500 kilometres. The Arabian Sea forms its south-west coast, the Bay of Bengal its south-east coast and the Indian Ocean its southern-most coast. In the northern areas of this country, the immense and impressive Himalayan Mountain Range characterises the landscape. This mammoth natural wonder has long lured travellers and intrigued visitors from all over the world. These are the world’s highest peaks, with over 100 of its mountains exceeding 7200 metres. This mountain range extends across six countries and has the Ganges, Brahmaputra, Yangtze and Indus rivers flowing through its gorges. There are several peaks in the Himalayas that are holy to those subscribing to the Hindu and Buddhist faiths. However, more than just being awe-inspiring and the ultimate challenge to climbers, the Himalayas also form the boundary between India and China, Bhutan and Nepal. On the west of India are the Punjab Plains, in which Pakistan is situated, and the Thar Desert. This is one of the largest

Geography and Topography The Geography in the Indus River Valley was very good for farming. The good soil was provided from the irrigation canals which brought water to the farms. The fertileness of the land also led to a very big risk of diseases. Their soil was also good for farming because the Indus River floods yearly. The area of the land in India is 1,269,345 sq. miles, and the Indus River is about 1,800 miles long. The mountains that are around the Indus Valley are some of the biggest in the world.
The Indus River Valley's river is what the people depended upon very much, along with other things, such as the Asian monsoons.
All of these things make the Indus Valley stand out even more from the other civilizations. The elevation of India's highest was mountain level, 25,645 feet, and the lowest was sea level. The temperature ranged from thirty-two degrees F to one-hundred degrees F. The rainfall was between five and twenty inches.

is the name given to the vast peninsula which the continent of Asia throws out to the south of the magnificent mountain ranges that stretch in a sword like curve across the southern border of Tibet. Shaped like an irregular quadrilateral, this large expanse of territory deserves the name of a subcontinent. Ancient Geographers referred to India as being "constituted with a four-fold conformation" (chatuh samasthana samsthitam), " on its South and West and East is the Great Ocean, and the Himavat range stretches along its north like the string of a bow". The name Himvat in the above passage refers not only to the snow capped ranges of the Himalayas but also to their less elevated offshoots -the Patkai, Lushai and Chittagong Hills in the east, and the Sulaiman and Kirthar ranges in the west. These go down to the Sea and separate India from the wooded valley of Irrawady, on the one hand, and the hilly tableland of Iran, on the other. The Himalayas standing tall in breathtaking splendor are radiant in myth and mystery. These, the youngest and tallest mountain ranges, feed the Ganga with never-ending streams of snow. The Himalayas are home to the people of

India is fortunate in possessing one of the world's most extensive and fertile lands, made up of the alluvial soil brought down in the form of fine silt by the mighty rivers. Lying south of the Himalayas, these Great North Indian Plains consist of the Indus basin, the Ganga-Brahmaputra basin, and the tributaries of these mighty river systems.
To the south of the Great Plains of northern India lie the Great Plateau of Peninsular India, which is divided into two parts, namely, the Malwa Plateau and the Deccan Plateau. The Malwa plateau bounded by the Aravalli hills in the northwest and the Vindhyas in the south form the northern half of this peninsula. The Chota Nagpur region forms the northeastern part of this plateau and is the richest mineral producing region of India. The valley of the Narmada River forms the southern boundary of this plateau. The Deccan plateau extends from the Satpura hills in the north to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of mainland India, finally ending in the Indian Ocean.

India's total land mass is 2,973,190 square kilometers and is divided into three main geological regions: the Indo-Gangetic Plain, the Himalayas, and the Peninsula region. The Indo-Gangetic Plain and those portions of the
Himalayas within India are collectively known as North India. South India consists of the peninsular region, often termed simply the Peninsula. On the basis of its physiography, India is divided into ten regions: the Indo-Gangetic Plain, the northern mountains of the Himalayas, the Central Highlands, the Deccan or Peninsular Plateau, the East Coast (Coromandel Coast in the south), the West Coast (Konkan, Kankara, and Malabar coasts), the Great Indian Desert (a geographic feature known as the Thar Desert in Pakistan) and the Rann of Kutch, the valley of the Brahmaputra in Assam, the northeastern hill ranges surrounding the Assam Valley, and the islands of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Several major rivers, including the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Indus, flow through India. Arising in the northern mountains and carrying rich alluvial soil to the plains below, these mighty rivers have supported agriculture-based civilizations for thousands of years.
