People enjoy a comfortable life with a variety of luxuries like ornaments in agate and gold, cosmetics (kajal) and elaborate toys for children. Painting on pottery is skillful and covers various themes while small sculptures in terracotta (animals, toys), soft stone (bearded man) and metal jewels abound. India History
India history and culture stretch back to the beginning of human civilization. Ancient India history is a constant integration of migrating peoples. Situated in the centre of Asia, India is the crossroads of cultures from China to Europe. India history is more than just a set of unique developments in a definable process; it is a microcosm of human history itself. Ancient India History can be traced back to at least 2500 BC. The first known civilization settled along the Indus River in what is now Pakistan. India history is defined by the conquering armies that swept over the country in successive waves interspersed with periods of peace and prosperity.
India History - The Aryans
The first group to invade India were the Aryans; they came out of the north in about 1500 BC. The Aryans were warriors and conquerors and brought with them strong cultural traditions that still survive. They spoke and wrote in Sanskrit. The Aryans established the caste system and the basis for the Indian religions. They successfully inhabited the northern regions for about 700 years, gradually spreading further south and east. They were the first to use iron tools and weapons. The next great invasion into India occurred around 500 BC. Ancient India history records that the Persian kings pushed their empire eastward into northern India and conquered the ever-prized Indus Valley. They were over-run 200 years later by the Greeks under Alexander the Great, who swept through the country-defeating king Porus and his army of 200 elephants in 326 BC.

Welcome to India History Online.
This is a one-stop online resource for Indian History . The goal is to bring together conclusory evidence from multiple sources into this one website for your convenience. Until the past few decades, the standard opinion on India's history has been based on outdated theories that have now been scientifically disproven with ample literary, scriptural, archaeological, geological and genetic data. Much of this data will be presented on this website. Today we have a world-view of India as a land of mystery that was populated by an ancient civilization of gentle, black-complexioned illiterates. These Harappans were supposedly the ancestors of the current Dravidians and were a peace-loving, spiritual people who obtained a high standard of living in north and northwestern India five thousand years ago, but who left us no literature, ostensibly because they could not read or write ().

India is home to one of the richest and the most ancient civilizations in the world, which existed over 5,000 years ago. This civilization originated in the Indus River Valley, hence the name given to it was Indus Valley civilization . It is the origin of many of the ideas, philosophies and movements which have shaped the destiny of mankind. The civilization with its main cities Mohenjadaro and Harappa flourished for over eight centuries. Its people thought to be Dravidians, whose descendants still inhabit the far south of India. Aryan and Greek Invasions
The country was influenced by many invasions, the Arya or Aryans (1500BC) as they are known today, are the first invaders. Aryans were a group of nomadic tribes who had originally inhabited the steppes of Central Asia, in particular the region between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. Tall, fair haired, with clear cut features, they spoke a group of languages which have become known as Indo-European. They settled in the region to the north west of India, known as the Punjab. They brought with them new ideas, new technology and new gods, this is one of the most important epochs in Indian history. With time, the Aryans were engaged in struggle with the dark skinned people or Dasyus. The Dasyus were the Dravidians. The superiority of the Aryans resulted in the Dravidian submission.

India History
The first known permanent settlements appeared 9,000 years ago and developed into the Indus Valley Civilization, which peaked between 2600 BC and 1900 BC, followed by the Vedic Civilization.
The Maurya dynasty from around 400 BC onwards, which included the Buddhist king Ashoka of the Sarnath Pillar fame, contributed greatly to India's cultural landscape. From 180 BC, a series of invasions from Central Asia followed, with the successive establishment in the northern Indian subcontinent of the Indo-Greek, Indo-Scythian and Indo-Parthian kingdoms, and finally the Kushan Empire. From the 3rd century onwards the Gupta dynasty oversaw the period referred to as ancient India's "Golden Age". In the south, several dynasties including the Chalukyas, Cheras, Cholas, Kadambas, Pallavas and Pandyas prevailed during different periods. These kings were great patrons of science, art, literature, mathematics, astronomy, engineering, religion, and philosphy.
Following frequent Islamic invasions in the beginning of the second millennium, much of India came to be ruled by the Delhi Sultanate, and later, much of the entire subcontinent by the Mughal dynasty.
