Drat, Solid State Drives Still Too Expensive
IT Industry Comments Off Solid state drives are one of the hottest trends in the PC and notebook industry. Leading industry names including Apple, Lenovo and HP are rolling out computers based on solid state drives instead of the traditional hard disk drives with their spinning parts. Yet, prices of solid state drives are falling too slowly for our liking. Faster, Lighter, Quieter
For all ye schmucks , solid state drives are faster, lighter, quieter, draw less power, last longer and have no moving parts. One of the key players in the solid state drive business is Intel, which today rolled out a new solid state drive and cut prices on some of its older drives. Posted by SearchIndia.com

Shadowbrook in Capitola - Restaurant review
Posted on November 11th, 2009 by Chitra So, it has been ages since I wrote here, though I have been writing often over at the main blog - chitra-aiyer.com . I have wanted to write about this restaurant for a while now - have managed to put it off till now. Shadowbrook restaurant in the city of Capitola Anyway, we arrived and parked a street away and walked up to the restaurant. The Sun had already set and it was dark. We arrived at the entrance and from then on, till the time we were out, the experience was just fantabulous. This place has been beautifully and tastefully envisioned and designed. In fact, the restaurant is some feet below and they take you in a beautiful cable car from the gate! The cable car was a complete surprise to us and we were completely taken in. We are vegetarians and had a limited menu there; but we personalized what we wanted. Everything about that evening was perfect - food, ambiance, service. After the first time, we went there many times, but every-time it was for dinner. So, we have never really seen the place during the day and apparently it is beautiful with lovely views. This has by far been one of the most romantic places I have been to for dinner. If you are in the Bay Area or Santa Cruz County or are visiting, definitely pay Shadowbroook a visit. Do come back and tell us how it was. Or if you have already been to the Shadowbrook, please share your experience.

Indian-american
For an article on American Indians see Native Americans An Indian American is an American by residence or citizenship who has ancestry originating in the Indian subregion of South Asia . For example, a great number of Indian Americans were born in India and immigrated to the United States , or were born in the United States and have Indian ancestry. Another significant example is that of Americans of Indian origin from other parts of the world's Indian diaspora , and their descendants in America. Numbering at least 2.5 million, Indian Americans account for slightly less than 1% of the total population of the United States. Indian Americans are the largest subgroup of South Asian Americans , and the third-largest subgroup of Asian Americans , after Chinese Americans and Filipino Americans . 2 million Indian Americans are either legal citizens or permanent residents, and an additional 500,000 to 1 million others work in the country and have been granted work-permits and visas, but are not citizens or permanent residents. Many Indian Americans specialize in the fields of computers and medicine; while many others are engineers or other specialists. There are many negative stereotypes about Indian Americans, such as the idea that all Indians in the USA perform menial jobs like working at or driving taxis. In fact, Indian Americans are one of the most skilled ethnic groups in the United States (being dramatically over-represented in the field of medicine, for instance), and are actually considered to be the wealthiest group of immigrants in the United States.

Two schools near 40 percent minority enrollment ëracially identifiableí
Posted: 6/18/04 by Brett Andersen
Thisweek Newspapers
Cedar Park Elementary, Apple Valley, and Glacier Hills Elementary, Eagan, have been officially recognized as ìracially identifiableî by the state of Minnesota. Because of the identification, Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District 196 officials have six months to develop an integration/equity plan by state law. A racially identifiable school has an enrollment of protected students more than 20 percent higher than the district average. Cedar Park has a protected student enrollment of 37.7 percent and Glacier Hills 38.7 percent. Protected students include four minorities: American Indian, Asian-Americans, African-Americans, and Latinos. The district average is about 16.6 percent. Pinewood Elementary has the lowest enrollment of protected students among districtís elementary schools at about 6.5 percent. ìWe have a concentration of minority students,î said Prevention and Diversity Coordinator Don Brundage. ìParticularly at the elementary level.î Jane Berenz, director of state and federal rule implementation, said the local community must develop a plan and submit it to the Department of Education. The plan must benefit all students, according to the law.

News University complies with anti-affirmative-action initiative
By Ethan Bronner The New York Times , November 7, 1998 In the first concrete result of Tuesday's passage of an anti-affirmative action referendum in Washington state, the University of Washington says it is regretfully suspending its 30-year practice of race-conscious admissions. University officials say they are also reviewing a set of programs that may be affected by the initiative, which bars "preferential treatment" to any group based on race or gender in the public sector. Those other programs include ones that encourage women to enter the field of engineering and African-Americans to go into mathematics. While the university, whose main campus is in Seattle, does not have a large minority enrollment, officials there say they have relied on race-conscious admissions policies to increase those numbers over the years. About 100 members of the current freshman class, representing some 24 percent of its minority students, would not have been admitted without race-conscious policies, according to Ernest Morris, vice president for student affairs. The university calculates that over the past three decades, it has admitted and graduated more than 5,000 minority students through their preferential admissions plan. "We have taken steps to suspend the use of race and gender in admissions," Morris said. "But we are determined to do everything we can within the law to maintain the diversity of the student body. The numbers are relatively small as is, so we're just going to have to look very carefully at ways to get those students to enroll here."
