The goal is to locate four Australian animals, find information, and report back the requested information. The activity helps students learn to gather information, sift through it, and provide only that requested. Neal-Schuman 153 pages Paperback Hunt (Zayed U., UAE) has 12 years of experience providing information literacy instruction to undergraduate and graduate students; Birks (Zayed U.) has 30 years of experience in education in Australia and the UAE. This sequel to their first book, Hands-On Information Literacy Activities (Neal-Schuman, 2003), offers teachers and librarians 20 new student-centered activities to support them in their instruction of information literacy skills. The hands-on, ready-to-teach lessons are organized into five sections of activities for determining information needs, for accessing information, for evaluating information, for using and citing information ethically, and general activities. All have been used successfully in classrooms, and most take less than one hour. All of the supporting materialshandouts, worksheets, and answer keysfound in the book are also on an accompanying CD-ROM, and can be customized for individual classrooms. Information Literacy Initiative
Empowering the college community with the skills needed to access and collect relevant, high quality information.
Information literacy enhances traditional library instruction by fostering critical thinking skills. The concept of information literacy is steeped in the pedagogy of academic librarianship. Library orientation and instruction in research methodology or bibliographic instruction has been an ongoing service to the students and faculty of Atlantic Cape for many years. Information literacy enhances traditional library instruction by fostering critical thinking skills. It also provides faculty and librarians with the means to assess the effectiveness with which students process and manage information. The challenges faced by today's students when conducting research are in many ways unprecedented. The information literate student is equipped with the knowledge and skills to meet these challenges head-on in preparation for a successful academic career and a more productive professional and personal life.
