Teacher Certification
Getting Certified to Teach and Work in Education
Teacher Certification is the first step in achieving your career goals. Would you like to help children read and instill in them a life-long love of books? How about math and science concepts that pique their interests enough to become our future economists or scientists? Regardless of what subject you decide to teach, education is a precious gift that stays with a person throughout their life. Teachers are so important because they have a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Whether teaching children, supporting the work of teacher, or creating the curriculum children will learn, becoming involved in education represents an important responsibility-one that requires adequate preparation. The teacher certification process will allow you to learn the best ways to teach essential concepts, motivate your students, and successfully manage a classroom. Studying educational technology or curriculum development will allow you to create the tools children need to learn effectively. By learning to be a teacher’s aide or an educational manager or administrator you can support teachers in their important work.

Teacher Licensure/Certification
The Iowa Board of Educational Examiners issues teacher, support service, and administrator licenses on the recommendation of Iowa colleges and universities whose programs have been approved by the Iowa Department of Education. All University of Iowa preparation programs have Iowa Department of Education approval. Licensure/certification requirements across the nation are subject to change. Students who plan to seek employment in a state other than Iowa should make every effort to be informed about current requirements in that state. Many states require some type of competency testing. Generally, students who apply out-of-state should first secure Iowa licensure. To be recommended by The University of Iowa, applicants must complete all requirements of the appropriate approved program. A minimum of 20 s.h. of course work applied to meet program requirements must be earned at The University of Iowa. Fingerprinting is required for all new applicants for Iowa licensure; the State of Iowa has outlined specific procedures for the fingerprinting process. A passing PRAXIS II score for the elementary content test is required for all students seeking elementary licensure in Iowa and for satisfaction of an approved Teacher Education Program. No test is currently required for secondary or K-12 Iowa licensure applicants.

Iowa
Iowa follows a system with a number of different licenses , so your background and education will determine exactly which one is right for you. For most teachers, you will fall under a Class A license, Initial license or the Exchange license. Alternative Licensure which allows individuals with a baccalaureate degree to become a high school teacher, provided you have completed coursework requirements for a secondary teaching endorsement, have three years of post-baccalaureate work experience, and have completed the introductory teacher intern program. Iowa offers a wide variety of school districts to choose from, in cities such as Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, and Sioux City. Teach Iowa provides a service that allows teachers to register and search for teaching jobs throughout Iowa. Renewing your Iowa teaching license is fairly easy, as Initial license holders are only required to have completed their two years of teaching experience while holding the license. The same requirements stand for converting your Initial license to a more permanent Standard license, however, Iowa requires that you provide evidence of competence in the eight Iowa teaching standards. Once you possess a Standard license, every 5 years you will be required to complete six credits of courses that are either applicable to your teaching endorsement or a different Iowa endorsement that you plan to hold in the future. You may also earn credits through Iowa staff development courses or approved activities, as well as achieving

Washington University in St. Louis (BFA), the Chicago Art Institute (MFA), and the University of Iowa (Teacher Certification Program) were all very influential in my education.
http://www.louisvilleartgallery.com/jkinkade.htm
Julie Kinkade
Little did I know that, as a child fascinated by the comics and cowboy heroes of the fifties, I was laying a foundation for later art work with my stories and illustrations. Based on Lone Ranger's horse Silver, these adventures allowed me to early on find inspiration in popular culture. I blended the ready-made images with my rural New England woods exploration to develop a creative form that lasted from 3rd grade to high school. It gave me an intuitive understanding of equine gesture and character which informs my current horses, saving them from the limitations of realism.
The years between high school and the rediscovery of my past were filled with education, teaching, family, and pottery, not necessarily in that order. Washington University in St. Louis (BFA), the Chicago Art Institute (MFA), and the University of Iowa (Teacher Certification Program) were all very influential in my education. As my focus shifts from teaching to producing art work, I choose to continue teaching young children part time, for their fresh uncluttered outlook on life, as well as my dedication to helping foster creative education. I joined the Omaha ClayWorks in 2005 and found a terrific studio for continued artistic growth.
My current series of horses springs from my process-oriented approach to clay. My pottery background is present, even as I alter wheel-thrown vessels to find the creature living within the clay. Once the parts are thrown, I assemble the sculptures spontaneously, with a confidence born of experience. Throwing rings from the wheel provide a context onto which I layer texture, colorful underglazes, and mixed media. The horses' playful attitudes and sense of family groupings echo my fundamentally positive attitude towards life. I enjoy treading a fine line between a simplified character and a caricature, humor and strangeness, love and sentimentalism.
