Destinations Ireland Ireland Travel Guide Ireland History ... Ireland Travel Guide Ireland history dates back to as late as 300 B.C. It was close to 300 B.C that the Kelts came to Ireland and reigned for the nest 1000 years. During this time the country was maximally influenced on its culture, language and lifestyle. This influent can still be experienced at large in the cities of Cork, Waterford, Kerry and Galway. Between 3rd to 5th century, Ireland became a colony of European society. Ireland saw through a period of Viking Invasion during 8th century. Later in the 10th century they founded Dublin which then became their empire. In 1169, the English arrived with the Normans, taking over Wexford and Dublin; the British became its new rulers. Henry II, The English king, was accepted by the pope as Lord of Ireland and he took Waterford in the year 1171, pronouncing it a royal city. Alongside, Anglo-Norman lords also established their power bases in Ireland. Fighting off the last Irish Chief- Hugh O'Neill in 1607 the region of Ulster was seized by the English power. In the English Civil War the local Irish and Old English Catholics defended the royalists but after the execution of Charles I, Oliver Cromwell - the triumphant Protestant parliamentarian - arrived in Ireland for vengeance. This war witnessed many deaths and major damage. The called popery code of 1695 was the most restricting of all laws ever made in the history. The creation of the Catholic Association minified the Catholic emancipation. The severe failure of the potato crop in

44. Welcome To The Church Of Ireland (Traditional Rite).
A list of parish locations in Ireland as well as history and contact information.

Welcome to the Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite).
Who are we?
  • We are a member church of the worldwide Traditional Anglican Communion
  • We worship according to the 1926 Irish Book of Common Prayer
  • We are a Catholic, Apostolic, Reformed and Protestant Church.
The Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite) is the continuing Anglican Church in the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. At present we have congregations in Londonderry; Clogher, Co. Tyrone; Newtownards, Co. Down; Stradbally, Co. Leix, and there is an "overseas" congregation in Southeast Cornwall.
The Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite) was founded in 1991 as a traditional Anglican alternative to the Church of Ireland, which has been undergoing radical change for the last twenty years. The most obvious manifestation of this change has been replacement its traditional liturgy with the 2004 Book of Common Prayer. However, there has been an increasing tendancy towards revisionism in both theology and morality, as seen in the 2004 controversy in the Diocese of Dublin over "Gay Unions." The decision to form the Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite) was made following the decision of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland to allow the ordination of women to the priesthood and the episcopate. This move was made not because the Church believes women to be inferior to men. Holy Scripture specifically says they are not, but because the Church of Ireland broke with clear Scriptural precedent in allowing this change to its constitution.

King William 111 Prince of Orange LOL 1313 From the foundation of the Orange Institution in 1795 to the early part of the twentieth century Dublin City and County was an important Protestant and Orange centre in Ireland. Dublin was the political capital of Ireland until the Act of Union in 1801, which closed the Irish Parliament and united it with Westminster. However Dublin remained the administrative capital of Ireland until partition in 1921. The first Grand Lodge of Ireland meeting was held in Dublin. The first Minute Book of the Grand Lodge reads as follows:- "That it is advisable that this first meeting of the Grand Lodge of Ireland should be on Monday the 9th Day of April at the House of Thomas Verner of Dawson Street Esq. Grand Master of the Counties of Londonderry, Tyrone and Fermanagh." The Dawson Street home was the town house of James Verner M.P. (A Member of the Irish Parliament), and father of Thomas Verner J.P. A Plaque in the footpath, erected by Dublin Corporation, now marks the place where the Verner house once stood. Dublin was therefore, as the administrative Capital of the Island, the natural headquarters for the Orange Institution and remained such until the Headquarters Buildings, the Fowler Memorial Hall in Rutland Square, was severely damaged in the Civil War. The Headquarters, situated in what is now Parnell Square, at the top of O'Connell Street, had been seized by the IRA, and in conjunction with the Rotunda, used as their headquarters. Following its evacuation by the IRA all the books and documents which had survived the siege were removed to Belfast where they were safely stored. The last public parade in Dublin was in 1936, when the Brethren were attacked as they walked from the Fowler Hall to Amiens St Station to travel by train to Belfast, for the annual 12th of July celebrations.

The History of Ireland by Hollis, Daniel Webster, III, For a nation with a relatively small territory and population, Ireland has had a remarkable influence in the English-speaking world. In the United States alone, it is estimated that there are now forty-four million descendants of Irish lineage. For them and for students and interested readers, this up-to-date, concise, and fascinating volume is an ideal introduction to the history of Ireland. Hollis, an expert on Irish history, traces Ireland from its beginnings in the Neolithic era to events and issues in the year 2000. Carefully weaving the thread of complex relations between Britain and Ireland through the centuries, he portrays the dramatic events that led to the formation of the Republic, the troubles with Northern Ireland, and the complex economic and political issues that prevail in Ireland today. Home Bishop makes his first 'ad limina Apostolorum' visit to Rome All the Catholic bishops of Ireland are in Rome for a two week official visit this mid October. The "ad limina" visit takes its name from the ancient practice of pilgrimages ad limina apostolorum to the thresholds (or tombs) of Sts. Peter and Paul, in Rome. The term refers to the obligatory visit by the bishops of dioceses to the Holy See. The bishop of a diocese is required to make this visit every five years, as a sign of his communion with the Holy See and in order to report on the condition of his diocese. The bishop is expected to provide an in-depth report on his diocese - called the 'quinquennial report' - which is presented to which is presented to the Secretariat of State, the central administrative arm of the Vatican. For the Irish bishops, the pilgrimage officially starts on the 16th October 2006, when the Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Sean Brady, leads the celebration of Mass at St. Peter's Basilica. On the 28th October, the Pope will address all the Irish bishops, offering his perspective on the challenges facing the Church in Ireland. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI will also meet the bishops individually.
