According to them, time travel books, comics and films should be branded fantasy instead. That position might find its arguments in the way that Hollywood usually treated time travel. Most of the time, that concept was nothing more than a convenient excuse for exotic, but standard adventures and films without any ambitions of seriousness. But, every once in a while, there comes a time travel film with brains. George Pal's classic adaptation of equally classic H.G. Wells' novel THE TIME MACHINE is one of them. TIME AFTER TIME, 1979 film and directorial debut by Nicholas Meyer, is perfect companion piece to it.

24. Time [Internet Encyclopedia Of Philosophy]
Time has been studied for thousands of years. Nevertheless, many issues remain to be resolved. This article explores both what is now known about time and what is controversial and unresolved.

Time
Time is what clocks measure. We use our concept of time to place events in sequence one after the other, and we use it to compare how long events last. Yet despite 2,500 years of investigating time,  many issues about it are unresolved. Here is a short list in no particular order of the most important ones: •What time actually is spacetime Some of these issues will be resolved by scientific advances alone, but others require philosophical analysis. For example, we expect that it will take a discovery of some new scientific principles to explain why time has only one dimension, but we expect that answering the question of whether the future is real is a matter for philosophical analysis. Consider this one issue upon which philosophers are deeply divided: What sort of ontological differences are there among the present, past and future? There are three competing theories. Presentists argue that necessarily only present objects and present experiences are real, and we conscious beings recognize this in the special “vividness” of our present experience. The dinosaurs have slipped out of reality. However, according to the growing-universe or growing-block theory, the past and present are both real, but the future is not real because the future is indeterminate or merely potential. Dinosaurs are real, but our death is not. The third and more popular theory is that there are no significant ontological differences among present, past, and future because the differences are merely subjective. This view is called “the block universe theory” or “eternalism.”

How did the concept of time originate? Time is something that most of us take for granted. Have you ever thought about why, for example, there are 12 months in a year? Why are there 30 days in September? Why are there time zones and what's with daylight-saving time? Why are there 86,400 seconds in a day? In this article, we'll help to clarify the subject of time. In the same way that many of the traditions surrounding Christmas and Halloween have totally unexpected origins, so do the traditions surrounding clocks and calendars!

The table below displays the current local time in major cities around the world. By clicking on each city you can find out more information and details. Time zones are divided into standard and daylight saving (or summer). Daylight saving time zones (or summer time zones) include an offset (typically +1) for daylight saving time. Standard time zones (Winter Time zones) can be defined by geometrically subdividing the Earth's spheroid into 24 lunes (wedge-shaped sections), bordered by meridians each 15° of longitude apart. The local time in neighboring zones would differ by one hour. However, political boundaries, geographical practicalities, and convenience of inhabitants can result in irregularly-shaped zones. In a few regions, half-hour or quarter-hour differences are in effect.

Metric Time or Decimal Time Our time keeping is not up-to-date. Whenever we measure something (length, area, volume, weight) most of us use a decimalized (base 10) system: the metric system. Except when we measure time. For time keeping we use a " minkukel " approach with twenty four hours per day, sixty minutes per hour, and sixty seconds per minute. This is a sexagesimal (base 60) numeral system. The only reason for not using a metric time system is that switching would give us a big headache and it would take years to get adjusted to it. The same reason why some minkukels still use ounces, miles and gallons. Storyline
H.G. Wells believes that the future holds a Utopian society. He also believes in time travel. He has just built a time machine which he is displaying to a group of skeptical friends, including surgeon Dr. John Leslie Stevenson. Unbeknown to Wells or anyone else among that circle, Stevenson is better known to the public as Jack the Ripper. Just as the police are about to capture Stevenson, he uses the time machine to escape, with Wells being the only one who knows what happened to him. Not telling anyone except his trusting housekeeper, Wells follows Stevenson in order to capture and bring him back to face justice. Where Stevenson has gone is 1979 San Francisco. There, Wells is dismayed to find that the future is not Utopia as he had predicted. But Wells is also picked up by a young woman named Amy Robbins. As Wells and Amy search for Stevenson, Stevenson conversely is after Wells to obtain the master key to the time machine...
