White on Rice: Japan inspires director again
By G. Allen Johnson September 17, 2009 For a guy who has now made two films with major emphasis on Japanese culture, Dave Boyle has a startling admission: "I've never been to Japan," Boyle said. "I would like to go, maybe with a film. I am curious, and for convenience sake, I speak the language." In fact, the comedy "White on Rice," a goofy film about a 40-year-old loser bunking with his 10-year-old nephew and romantically longing for his brother-in-law's college-age niece, is mostly in Japanese with English subtitles, although it takes place in an America that seems suspiciously like Los Angeles. Closely watched village frees most dolphins
By Yuri Kageyama September 4, 2010 Japanese fishermen herded dolphins into a cove made famous by an Oscar-winning documentary about the hunt but did not kill any Friday, as conservationist groups ramped up scrutiny of the annual slaughter. An official in the seaside village of Taiji, depicted in the film "The Cove," said a handful of the best-looking dolphins were kept to be sold to aquariums, but the rest were set free Friday morning. He declined to give details. The decision to set most of the dolphins free marks a departure from past practice. your ad here ENTERTAINMENT

I hate being cold. Even more so that your average California girl, I am practically paralyzed by cold weather. And by "cold" I mean anything under 65 degrees. No joke. And, as luck would have it, in just the past couple years I've managed to hit up NYC, Boston, Chicago and Minneapolis during winter. Bad news. The minute the temperature dips below freezing I stop caring what I look like. I layer ski clothes under wool. I wear caps and mufflers and ear muffs and I double up on gloves. It's pathetic and not cute.

Geisha - Geisha information, Geisha pictures, where to see Geisha, Geisha and prostitution and Maiko - trainee Geisha.
Geisha (芸者 "person of the arts") are traditional Japanese artist-entertainers. The word Geiko is also used to describe such persons. Geisha were very common in the 18th and 19th centuries, and are still in existence today, although their numbers are dwindling. "Geisha," pronounced /ˈgeɪ ʃa/ ("gay-sha") is the most familiar term to English speakers, and the most commonly used within Japan as well, but in the Kansai region the terms geigi and, for apprentice geisha, "Maiko" have also been used since the Meiji Restoration. The term maiko is only used in Kyoto districts. The English pronunciation ˈgi ʃa ("gee-sha") or the phrase "geisha girl," common during the American occupation of Japan , carry connotations of prostitution, as some young women, desperate for money and calling themselves "geisha," sold themselves to American troops.
