By cobwebsandstrange on 11/8/10 1:25pm Add Comment Recorded in 1964, Last Date was supposedly the culmination of Eric Dolphy’s short – and immensely important – career. It probably wasn’t. There were live performances scheduled after the recording of that set and probably a few we don’t even know about. But part of why the recording remains an important piece of jazz’ history has little to do with Dolphy and a lot to do with the sounds found accompanying the sax and flute player. Read more >
By cobwebsandstrange on 11/5/10 4:06pm Add Comment Advancing the medium in which one works has to become a problem for creative types after working for a while. In addition to reckoning with roughly the same materials – instruments, etc. – for a while, there has to be a question of how to innovate. Miles Davis didn’t seem to run into that problem too many times. He just switched everything up – his band and the style of music he aimed at. Ornette Coleman , who began impacting the trajectory of jazz in the post World War II years about the same time as good ole Miles, may have been the first to completely abstract the genre. If nothing else, he put a Jackson Pollock painting on the cover of

Sherard Van Dyke 'Counterpoint' 'Nurture vs Nature'
'Homage to Ray Brown' Inspired as much by the Surrealism movement as by the Harlem Renaissance of that same epoch, she blends together mythological puns and symbols of the African American Diaspora, painting them in playful yet significant juxtaposition. Sherard's oil paintings on canvas, mixed media, and limited editions have been extensively exhibited and her work may be found in a number of international, corporate, university,

Today training was sux like hell, cause we quarrel again! But I was not involved in it. Kays, can see that the sec 2 are happier when the sec 3 are not around. But why must our relationship turn out to be so bad?
Who like their senior to keep going around and scold them? They would prefer their senior to always joke and have fun with them. As I was once a junior and that was how I felt at that point of time. But if senior dun be serious and scold them when they are at wrong and whole day joke around, how are we going to improve like this?
Being a junior, we might think that the senior do not have the right to scold us, but being a senior we think that we have the right. Aiya, I also dun know what am I suppose to do to be a good senior. Should I joke or be serious?
I really hope that all of us can turn up on wed for training, or else we cannot practice our court game. And all to turn up on sat, or else we cannot play a good game. Kays that all for today, good night!

Jazz Music
Written by admin Gallery Music Jun 27, 2010 Jazz Music Jazz music has a huge live following. The first impressions of Jazz music were heard on a live platform, so this has remained one of the key ways in which the music is relayed. Jazz is a style of music where people will go to a theatre to see it performed without having any knowledge of who the artist of the night will be. This is because a key component to Jazz is also the element of culture. As a cultural Jazz practice, people will sit around the round tables of the dim clubs and drink and relax, as they listen to the new Jazz tunes. Jazz is different in the regard that if a Jazz artist has a new single that they would like to introduce, they will take the opportunity to introduce the new Jazz music at the local club where they are playing. Soon enough, word will get out about the new song to the general public supporters of Jazz music in due time. As much as Jazz music is deeply rooted, it is also about producing a new sound. Thus, Jazz music is a form of expression that is ever changing. There may be some similarities among bars and instruments, but there will always be some unique elements that will differ from that of the other. This is one of the reasons why Jazz has lasted the test of time and is continuing to go strong.

Fine Map: No Relation
After making all these posts about famous people in my family, I thought I'd share a nifty map by Oronce Fine , a person to whom I have no relation whatsoever (there nothing French anywhere in my DNA), and my surname was given to my paternal great grandfather at a German port after their ship sank (destroying all the family papers). I often imagine that the name is rather common because of the possibility that the answer to the question, "Who are you?" could easily be interpreted by Yiddish-speaking ears as "How are you?"
It sure is a nifty map. Posted by Elaine Fine at 3:02 PM 0 comments
