This singularly delicious sandwich is found in a small region of North Jersey. Most common variant is the "Turkey Joe", although Roast Beef Joes and Ham Joes are also found. Joes are assembled from 3 slices of real rye bread (sliced to order), a healthy dose of sliced meat, Swiss cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing. Made properly, a good Turkey Joe is about the best sandwich you'll ever eat. My wife is from Chatham, her favorite Joe comes from the Hickory Tree deli; I lived in Summit and prefer the Towne Deli. Can anyone in NJ confirm the geography of this sandwich? I don't think it exists as far east as Union or as far west as Morristown. When visiting the area (we live in PA now), I always return home with a cooler-full of Joes.

New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards were first adopted by the State Board of Education in 1996. The standards describe what students should know and be able to do upon completion of a thirteen-year public education and provide local school districts with clear and specific benchmarks for student achievement in nine content areas. The 2009 standards reflect current research, exemplary practices, national and state standards and standards from other countries. They were drafted by taskforces consisting of educators and experts recognized for their content area expertise and for demonstration of excellence as practitioners in their respective fields. In each content area, standards and cumulative progress indicators align with the knowledge and skills needed for post-secondary education and the workplace.
The standards unit provides local school districts with technical assistance to ensure that all students receive appropriate standards-based education. Content coordinators provide telephone, electronic, and on-site technical assistance in areas related to curriculum development and alignment, policy development, student assessment, and research-based practices. For more information on those services, go to the content area pages.
