Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist
Pages: 192
Pub Date: August 28, 2007
Author Website/Blog: http://www.davidlevithan.com/index.html http://www.rachelcohn.com/
Synopsis: It all starts when Nick asks Norah to be his girlfriend for five minutes. He only needs five minutes to avoid his ex-girlfriend, who's just walked in to his band's show. With a new guy. And then, with one kiss, Nick and Norah are off on an adventure set against the backdrop of New York City and smack in the middle of all the joy, anxiety, confusion, and excitement of a first date.

Just brilliant. As always the book is better then the movie. The movie made me tear off my nails and eat them it (figuratively) it was so painful. I dont think Ive ever been truly bored to tears. The book made up for it. The book always makes everything so much better. This book was slow at the beginning but the end made up for it. It really showed that things arent as they seem. Granted I gaged a bit when Norah talked about Tukan Olam which is a jewish idea that the world is broken and we need to put the pieces back together again. I really enjoyed that the story showed the true feelings of the characters. It wasnt some cheesy novel where all they wanted to do is fall in love. THis was a great well written story. LITERATURE, JEWISH
Literature on Jewish themes and in languages regarded as Jewish has been written continuously for the past 3,000 years. What the term Jewish literature encompasses, however, demands definition, since Jews have lived in so many countries and have written in so many different languages and on such diverse themes. In this article it will be understood to include the following categories: (1) works written by Jews on Jewish themes in any language; (2) works of a literary character written by Jews in Hebrew or Yiddish or other recognized languages, whatever the theme; (3) literary works written by writers who were essentially Jewish writers, whatever the theme and whatever the language. This entry covers the subject up to the threshold of the modern period. The continuation will be found in other entries including This article is arranged according to the following outline: EARLY BEGINNINGS TO THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD BIBLICAL LITERATURE APOCRYPHAL WORKS APOCALYPTIC LITERATURE ... LADINO LITERATURE

All holy thoughts and elevated knowledges sprout on the breadth of the field that God has blessed. And behold there rise constantly at every time and every hour, at every minute and at all intervals of a minute: new and wondrous plants, shoots and blossoms, as there rises constantly the influence of life to our eyes, and the influence of existence in general-all from the flow of the supernal intelligence
It is impossible for Jewish literature to succeed without the sanctification of the souls of the authors. You must toil to purify your character, your acts and ideas-until your inner world is filled with light and you feel within a intimate completion, while still concerned to perfect all that is wanting, so that you may be filled with humility blended with power, with a tranquil spirit blended with a strong arousal (both emotional and rational)for imparting goodness and wisdom to yourself, and to be filled with an exalted desire to stand at the heights of purity and supernal holiness.
As long as you do not stand at that height, you cannot truly be called an author. "The early authorities were called authors-they counted the letters of the Torah" (

Pearl Abraham Elisa Albert ... People of the Book Festival 2006 A Critique Of Modern American-Jewish Literature I found this essay by Dr. Sanford Pinsker provoking I knew that serious Jewish-American writers were in trouble several decades ago when I began giving my classes in "Jewish-American Fiction" a chance to vote on their favorite text in a survey course that included a catholic variety of Jewish authors, from Abraham Cahan to Pearl Abraham. The novel that won, hands down, every semester, every year, was Chaim Potok's The Chosen, a perfectly good novel for junior high school readers but not especially challenging, I thought, for college students. Why, I kept wondering, didn't they choose Henry Roth 's Call It Sleep or Saul Bellow's Herzog After mulling this question over for a couple of years, I decided (a) that estimations about art should never be put to a democratic vote; and (b) that I had to discontinue my end-of-semester questionnaire.
Curiously, I experienced something of the same disappointment when, as one of the judges nominating books for a prestigious

GREAT HOUSE by Nicole Krauss Reviewed by Hara E. Person Great House, Nicole Krauss’ new novel, is a triumph. Smartly executed and beautifully crafted, this multi-layered novel moves back and forth through the chaos of modern Jewish history. Krauss touches on the Holocaust, the Yom Kippur War, Chile under Pinochet, and travels from New York to Jerusalem to London to Budapest as she weaves a story focused on a desk...Read On Eric Ackland examines three new books from Jewish Lights that tackle different aspects of the High Holidays experience For many Jews, religious services, and particularly the High Holidays can be very alien and intimidating. Lack of familiarity with prayer (both formal and informal), lack of familiarity with Hebrew and with the order of the services, and even discomfort with the notions of God and of sin only compound the boredom and discomfort that the long services may cause even those who have the knowledge and skills to appreciate them...Read On
