GEOGRAPHY
Jordan is a Middle Eastern country, bordered by Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, Saudi Arabia to the east and south and Israel and West Bank to the west. All these border lines add up to 1,619 kilometres (1,006 mi). The Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea also touch the country, and thus Jordan has a coastline of 26 kilometres (16 mi). Jordan consists mostly of arid desert plateau in the east, with Highland area in the west. The Great Rift Valley of the Jordan River separates Jordan and Israel. The highest point in the country is Jabal Ram (1,734 m; 5,689 ft), while the lowest is the Dead Sea (-486 m; -1,594 ft). Jordan is considered to be part of the "cradle of humanity". Major cities include the capital Amman in the northwest, Irbid and Az Zarqa, both in the north. The climate in Jordan is dry and hot, since the country is mainly desert. However, the western part of the country receives greater precipitation during the rainy season from November to April. Jordan - Info

By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman Jordan is not a very big country. It has lots of interesting places, though. Most of Jordan's land is desert. Deserts are places where the weather is very dry and hot. Usually, there aren't many plants in deserts. Deserts are usually very sandy places. Almost three-fourths of Jordan's land is deserts. Most of these deserts are in central and east Jordan. The most famous desert in Jordan is called the Rum Desert. There you would find the beautiful Wadi Rum landscape. This landscape is filled with sandstone mountains.
The land in very western Jordan isn't desert. That's because there is a river along Jordan's western border. The Jordan River is very old. You can read about the Jordan River in many old books. In fact, the Jordan River is mentioned several times in the Christian Bible. Unlike the deserts in east Jordan, the land around the Jordan River has many plants. The Jordan River flows south into a place with a strange name.
This place is a sea. The sea is at the lowest point on the earth. The sea is surrounded by land. Water from the sea has no place to flow, so it evaporates. What is evaporation? When water on the ground gets warm, the water breaks up into tiny particles. These tiny particles are so small, you can't see them. These particles are very light, so they rise into the air.
