Kangaroo
Kangaroo, common name for a group of mammals found in Australia and neighboring islands. Kangaroos are marsupials, a type of mammal that gives birth to undeveloped young. In kangaroos and many other marsupials, the young are carried and nurtured in a special pouch on the mother's body. More than 50 different kinds of animals are grouped together in two kangaroo families. The large kangaroos include red kangaroos and gray kangaroos, wallabies, pademelons, and quokka; they belong in the family Macropodidae. The other family, Potoroidae, is made up of assorted smaller species, such as various rat-kangaroos, bettongs, and potoroos. The largest kangaroos are the gray kangaroo and red kangaroo, which can stand up to 2 m (6.5 ft) tall and weigh up to 85 kg (187 lb). The smallest are the musky rat-kangaroos, ratlike animals measuring about 30 cm (12 in), not including the tail. Fossil evidence shows that the first kangaroos appeared in Australia about 15 million years ago, during the Miocene Epoch. As a result of climate changes about 8 million years ago, Australia's rain forests gave way to open woodlands and savanna, and kangaroos evolved into many of the forms we know today. The now extinct giant kangaroos stood up to 3 m (10 ft) high and weighed 200 kg (440 lb). PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Most kangaroo species have large ears and relatively small heads. Their small front feet have five digits of unequal length, while the back feet typically have four digits. One of the toes on each hind foot has a sharp claw used in defense. Many species are drably colored to closely match their surroundings, helping them to hide from predators. Males of the larger kangaroo species are noticeably bigger in size than the females, a trait known as sexual dimorphism.

Kangaroos is on ABC TV on
19/02/2007 at 10:15am. They are marsupials They are the only large mammal that can hop. They live in groups called mobs.
  • Males are called bucks. Females are called does. Babies are called joeys.
Joeys are the size of a jellybean when they are born. They are pink, blind and hairless. They live in their mother's pouch drinking her milk. When they're about a year old they don't need mum's milk any more – but they stay close to her as they still have a lot to learn. Kangaroos are herbivores . They eat only grasses, leaves and the shoots of small trees. As they do most of their feeding in the evening or at night they are nocturnal animals. How do kangaroos keep cool?
  • They rest in the heat of the day.
  • They pant like a dog.
  • They dig shallow holes under trees and lie in the cool sand.
  • They have a spit bath by licking their arms.
Kangaroos are very good swimmers but they will only take to water when chased or if they have no other choice. They have very good hearing, eyesight and sense of smell.

Hey Roo Fans, Welcome to the best sight in history. You may know me on chats as 'bulkskinnydude'. I suport the kangaroos from the AFL. The 2000 season looks great for the roos.
Besides the rumers about the King retiring he's still playing at his best performance. The Roos are very disapointed about the loss of the pre-season grand final and loosing against West Coast. People like Cory Mcernan, Peter Bell and Bret Harvey hate losing games and they will be seeking revenge with no mucking around. It is known that there is a three way batle between Carlton, Kangaroos and the bombers but with all the brilance of Denis Pagon and the need of revenge by the players the kangroos are going to be well on top. My e-mail is bulkskinnydude@start.com.au so please e-mail me and give me some suggestions See ya.

KANGAROOS
Where do they come from? Why the pouch? Why do they hop? How fast are they? Did they evolve from some other animal?
K angaroos are the symbol of Australia. They appear on Australian postage stamps, coins, and even on their airplanes. What makes kangaroos so interesting to people? It seems to be the kangaroos' attractive face, the way they carry their young in a pouch, their amazing leaping power, and their deadly “karate kicking.”
The term “wallaby” is applied to those species where the adult male has a body mass less than about 20 kg (44 lbs) and feet less than 25 centimeters (10 inches) long. However, scientists can find no other major difference between these and kangaroos.
Large joey, ready to leave the pouch
Kangaroos’ superb design, their fascinating way of having babies, and the amazing, energy-efficient way they move is evidence that they were created by God. Kangaroos were not made by Evolution. For example, no baby kangaroos would ever have survived to grow up and make more babies unless the first mother knagaroo's pouch was designed just right (see below), and the very tiny baby joey was designed with the instinct and ability to find it.
Kangaroos vary enormously in size. The tiny, scampering musky rat-kangaroo lives in the tropical rain forests of northern Queensland (Australia). A huge kangaroo called

The kangaroo is an animal that is considered a pest in spite of it's endangered species status. The main reason that kangaroos are considered pests is that in addition to eating the grass, the kangaroo also eats the roots. Thus, a large herd of kangaroos can destroy a field in a very short time.

Of all the mammals that have a pouch, the kangaroo is the most well known. The family name is called Macropodidae. Captain James Cook, an English explorer in the 1800's came to Australia and asked the Endeavor River aborigines what the name of the animal with the pouch was and they told him kangaroo. The word kangaroo means "I do not know". These mammals have been known since as the kangaroo. There is evidence that kangaroos lived in Australia during the Miocene Epoch, some l5 million years ago. The kangaroos during that time were giant ones that stood to l0 feet tall and weighed almost 450 pounds. The largest of the kangaroos is the Great Kangaroo or Forester. The female is called the "flyer" and is smaller than the male that is called the "boomer" and may be up to seven feet tall. This kangaroo hops on powerful hind limbs and his tail serves as a prop to help him leap even higher. He lives in southwestern Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales and in Queensland. The kangaroos are of two families, the Macropodidae and Potoroidae. Macropus giganteus is the classification of the red kangaroo. There are two species of the gray kangaroo classified as Macropus giganteus and Macropus fuliginosus. The Hypsiprymnodon moschatus is known the as musky rat-kangaroo, and the bettong as Bettongia penicillata. The ring-tailed rock wallaby is classified as Petrogale xanthopus.

      About KangaROOS
1979...it all starts here. The jogging craze is sweeping the States and a guy named Bob Gamm needs a place to store his keys and change while he's out for his daily jog. As necessity is the mother of invention, Gamm came up with a design for an athletic shoe with a small zippered pocket.
      The KangaROOS shoe was born.
Life was good in the ‘80s. Kids were cruising around blasting their boom box, listening to Madonna, Duran Duran and Culture Club. Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Froggy were the popular games at the arcade. Hair was big and some items were just plain essentials: leg warmers, shoulder pads and of course you had to have your KangaROOS. The brand was one of the top 10 US brands in the ‘80s and was the first to offer runners a real sports technology - the NASA tested Dynacoil cushioning system. KangaROOS footwear began appearing on a number of high profile US sports stars like baseball's Ron Darling, basketball superstar Clyde "the Glide" Drexler and Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton.
Through the ‘90s KangaROOS had gained such a strong following that it began to widen its product offering. It started to introduce apparel and footwear collections for the leisure, outdoor and fashion markets and blazed a trail through Europe and beyond.

Mutant Marsupials Take Up Arms Against Australian Air Force
The reuse of some object-oriented code has caused tactical headaches for Australia's armed forces. As virtual reality simulators assume larger roles in helicopter combat training , programmers have gone to great lengths to increase the realism of the their scenarios, including detailed landscapes and the case of the Northern Territory's Operation Phoenix of kangaroos (since groups of disturbed animals might well give away a helicopters position).
The head of the Defense Science and Technology Organization's Land Operations/Simulations division reportedly instructed developers to model the local marsupials' movements and reaction to helicopters.
Being efficient programmers, they just re-appropriated some code originally used to model infantry detachments reactions under the same stimuli, changed the mapped icon from a soldier to a kangaroo, and increased the figures' speed of movement.
Eager to demonstrate their flying skills for some visiting American pilots, the hotshot Aussies "buzzed" the virtual kangaroos in low flight during a simulation. The kangaroos scattered, as predicted, and the Americans nodded appreciatively
