Welcome to the Cowley Cheer Squad The Cowley Cheer Squad practices five days a week for 2 hours a day, some times more depending on the season. Students are required to take cheerleading as a scheduled 1-hour credit class. During practice time, we work on tumbling, stunting, dancing, pyramid building, and preparing for upcoming events. The Cowley Cheer Squad consists of 16 girls and 10 guys. I have one manager and one trainer. We also have the Cowley Tiger Mascot. Some of the fun things that I as a coach find most appealing and unique about my program are as follows:
  • Team get-togethers: Once a month at Coach Hettenbach's house-nice home cooked meal! Fun and Fellowship! National Competitions : UPA AmeriCup in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Branson Open, Baker University Competition, Stunt Competitions. Cowley Cub Club : Teach young kids the sport of cheerleading and they get to come to the basketball games and perform! Arkalahlah the last full weekend in October, the team participates in Arkansas City's Fall Festival. The team builds a float for the parade(s) and participates in both parades. On Saturday, the team helps the Kiwanis out with the big Pancake Feed in the morning.

Kansas school board's evolution ruling angers science community
The Kansas State School Board voted Wednesday to remove the teaching of evolution from the state's science curriculum VIDEO CNN's Brian Cabell looks at the dispute over teaching evolution
Windows Media MESSAGE BOARD:

Defending Darwin

August 12, 1999 Web posted at: 10:08 p.m. EDT (0208 GMT) From Correspondent Brian Cabell TOPEKA, Kansas (CNN) A decision this week by the Kansas Board of Education to delete the teaching of evolution from the state's science curriculum has angered the mainstream science community in the United States. "This act ... took us back 100 years in science teaching and education," says Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. "I hope the courts will be the one to find time to correct the decision." The board's decision doesn't require the teaching of creationism, nor does it forbid the teaching of evolution. The specific curriculum is left to the local school boards and to the teachers who now find themselves with questions.
